Modelling armour in Ukraine crisis

Nice! How was the kit?

Quick question. ERA. I’m about to start a Russian T72 that has been the victim of a Ukraine strike. Looking at the many pictures I’m confused about ERA blocks. Not being able to quickly tell the difference between T72 versions I’m struggling.
So my question is - ERA blocks on T72’s in the Ukraine. Do they ALL have ERA or part ERA protection. Or is there non ERA T72’s in the Ukraine?

And second question - My Amusing Hobby T72 has no ERA blocks in the kit. After market? Or dimensions to scratch build them. And how they held on? Blu-tack.

thanks

i was wondering when someone was going to post pictures of those Peter lol

Too late, I already have one of those, and a nice, soft room with padded walls!

Hi Bruce,
The AH kit is a T-72A which was fitted with the Kontakt- 1 ERA (rectangular boxes) in a chevron pattern on the turret cheeks. These were bolted to an angled framework which was in turn bolted to the turret while the rest were bolted to studs welded directly to the hull. There are aftermarket ERA bricks available but honestly you may be better off getting a kit with ERA from the box and fitting the interior to that. If you were to go that route I would go for a T-72 BV rather than AV as they seem to be more common.

Can they be encrypted or are we looking at another information source?

Cheers,

M

No need. If they were savvy enough to use time old skool methods like pro words and phrases, they’d be just fine. They problem is that they are apparently not. We used cell phones in Iraq on the Syrian border. Our provider was Syria Tel. They never had a clue what the hell we were talking about. But I can say with certainty we weren’t discussing putting sand in our own fuel tanks or shooting ourselves in the foot.

Great work!

My AH kit is kit #35A038 a T - 72M1. An export model. Full interior. No ERA. So I guess I’m asking if any/many T72 without ERA are or were in the Ukraine?

A few T-72s have been seen without ERA

Others with minimal ERA

And probably makes sourcing 1/35 scale radios a lot more difficult!

Finally found a credible picture of the Dana in Ukrainian service. Seems to be in Czech green with no makings.

I am going to wait with building my kit. Sooner or late a picture will surface with markings and pixel camo :slightly_smiling_face:

All look to be T-72B except for that last one, the AH kit is the export version of the T-72A.
