Modelling armour in Ukraine crisis

To get to the BTR-82, you can purchase the Miniarm conversion kit, it even contains a 30mm brass barrel.

It is on my wishlist but even better if I can avoid resin. Now I only have to buy resin wheels.

When I was stationed in Germany we did the same thing with our tanks.

Whoaa this firing Malka picture looks great!

Hi!
Thats not to prevent the tank from falling, but to prevent the turret from turning. Some types of tanks or IFVs do not have a barrel clamp. To prevent the tank from falling during turns, they put shoes unter the tracks that can be seen on 2nd and 5th roadwheel. At least with the western armies, these claw into the wooden decks and prevent movement of tracks sideways.

Anyone know which M109s Ukraine is slated to get?

Michael @justsendit , To add to what Andreas @AKirchhoff said about the turret being prevented from turn to far … you get a better image on the tank behind the one you circled. You can see how they loop a recovery (?) cable over it and through point on the glacis.
Can’t see any form of tie down chains on the fronts or rears though ? I hope they travel very very slowly on those flatbeds.

Edit. Unless the thing on the 2nd and 5throad wheel is some type of track clamp on the flatbed?

Thanks! I have a couple of my stash, so I’ll be on the lookout for pictures so I can model one.

One though occurred to me as I was reading this thread: Ukraine’s military is transitioning from using Soviet and Russian-derived equipment to using Western equipment at a fairly accelerated pace as a result of the war. Depending on how long the war lasts and whether the West keeps up the pace of arms flows, Ukraine may end up with a heavily Westernized and battle-tested military. Not exactly something Putin wants to see on his doorstep.

I think Putler is a secret masochist, deep deep down in the dark corners of his mind he really wants Ukraine, Finland and Sweden to join NATO et.c.

Sorry about that guys. My comment was meant purely tongue-in-cheek. There are, as mentioned, shoes/clamps attaching the tracks to the flatcar. When I noticed that sloppy cable tossed around the barrel, I just couldn’t resist.

My twisted imagination is a terrible thing to waste. :innocent:

Lol … I knew that Mike … I was only highlighting the better view of the 2 tank as I’d never seen the turret secured like that … nor the way the tracks are locked to the flatbed … :+1::+1:

From a while back:

Something else to model:

Business Insider

Russia’s most advanced tank in service was obliterated by Ukraine just days…

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the T-90’s destruction in a statement, saying the tank arrived in Ukraine just days before its demise.

Zoom in on the cable securing the barrel. Looks like old picture frame wire. Should be easy to model. Is this really the best they can throw into the fight?

Dumb question but why isn’t Ukraine using the 777’s to target the railroad net work?

A CARVER matrix on such a target will generally show that it’s not worth it. Railway lines are relatively easily repaired. (Recuperability) Better to target a specific line with a command detonated device that will destroy equipment as well as the line itself. The loss of equipment has its obvious advantages, plus its removal can make rail line repair more difficult and time consuming.

I was thinking more along the line of taking out bridges etc. Major rail infra structure.
