Not defending the indefensible so keep the safety on, but that basic turret-stay is from a long line of Russian improvisation. Remember the early Mig jets were 50% wood, and the classic solution for writing in zero gravity – NASA spent kazillions developing a zero-G biro. The Russians? A pencil.
This was actually a bit of an urban myth. NASA didn’t develop anything, but a private venture developed a pen that could work in zero-G, & offered it to NASA for free (IIRC).
