With the widespread use of thermal sights are smoke screens even effective any more?
I may be a lowly hobbyist, but saying that one thing making another useless is grounds to never use the “another” makes no sense. There will always be situations where the other person doesn’t have thermals, and when that time comes, you’ll wish you kept your smokes.
Depends on the smoke grenades. There are some that have particles that help to degrade thermal imagers.

Except Russia is having trouble manufacturing modern optical systems (western components embargoed); resurrected T-55s being sent to Ukraine appear to have their original optics…
