Looks like an ex Bundeswehr M113 mortar.

What is that rusty looking strip on the bottom of the BMP? Just a very uniform-looking chip? Thanks

Maybe not chipping,
I would guess that it is unform wear across the whole surface.
I presume that it has moved a lot during the muddy season, dragging
the “belly” across and through mud and the mud has gradually polished
all the paint away.
I believe that if you flipped it over the whole bottom plate would be rusty.

Not often you see AS90’s in the news, and seeing as it’s quite a large wagon itself that’s a serious hole it’s sitting in!

Polish 155mm Krab

AS90

The front of the Krab.

Smooth front plate, headlights out over the fenders. Thick fender, rubber flap attached at the lower edge.

AS90

Two big bumps for the transmission, headlights above those bumps.
Fender ends as a wedge, rubber flap attached at the upper edge of the wedge

“Same” turret, different chassis

It’s me again …

Grille on the left side of the photo. Three “grilles” in the middle

The Krab (hard to find top views or even slightly from above)

Travel lock grabs gun behind the fume ejector, the AS90 has the travel lock in front of the ejector and the travel lock hinges at the front edge of the glacis.
No big grille on the left of the photo (blue curved arrow)
Travel lock is hinged on top of the glacis to get behind the ejector

Basically the Krab is a AS90 turret fitted on top of a K9 hull.

Y’know I spent 28 years in the British Army. 7 of those years learning AFV recognition so I didn’t put 120mm rounds through our own equipment. Another 16 of those years were spent as a reconnaissance soldier learning enemy equipment so if the need arose I could help people put 120mm rounds through enemy equipment. So I think I’m supremely qualified to recognise an AS90. Oh and 5 years commanding a desk!

An easy mistake, as I have not spent that long looking at Armoured vehicles.

But it’s nice to know you’re here with a wealth of experience and Knowledge. :+1:t2:
