Models in films and TV

I think it is the Revell New Jersey - a relatively new kit in 1958!

The 2024 remake of Salem’s Lot. Horrible photos as I was watching it on a plane. Mark Petrie (Jordan Preston Carter) making what looks like the Aurora Mummy and the Hunchback of Notre Dame - easily the most freaky of all that line of kits from my childhood point of view.

At first I thought you might mean ‘Ronin’ where the Character Jean-Pierre is building miniatures of the 47 Ronin, and discusses it.

Anyone remember the series Adventures in Scale Modelling on PBS, I believe? Somewhere I have a bunch of them on VHS tapes. Wayne

I vaguely remember that show. I can only recall them making an early train locomotive. Can’t remember them making any military models.

Testors did them. They basically showed different modelling tips each episode. I remember them doing a viking ship to show how you did the wood grain and coloring. Wayne

Yes, I remember the show. They built for a “museum” to display the finished models and had to build a few of the same models in different steps just for TV. I seem to recall that they didn’t build anything very expensive or fancy…more like models you can find on a drug store or art store’s shelf.

Yes, it was aimed at young modellers and teaching basic techniques of building.Testors was the sponsor on PBS. Wayne

If it’s a big truck, does that mean it’s by Italeri?

In Sherlock Holmes TV series first season episode The Adventure of the Resident Patient, Dr Watson is apparently building a wooden Dutch sailing ship model (it appears in other episodes as well)

I know we have mentioned the movie “The Thing” here before, but I saw these models in the scene when a flamethrower is dropped on the floor.

I finally found the movie Avalon (1990) available for streaming, so I went to the two scenes with model airplanes. The kids built the first one and then were bored because it didn’t do anything. So they decided to do a “cliff hanger” with it. They sat it on the floor and made a line of model glue running from it and then lit it which caught the model on fire. Their grandmother came downstairs and stomped out the fire.

Later in the movie two of the boys did another “cliff hanger’ and this time they added firecrackers to the wings.

Man…..if I had done something like that when I was a kid……I would still feel the pain from the beating……if I had lived through the beating!!! :open_mouth:
