Hello!
Long time ago I was working in Germany and after work I was watching TV - they had looond ad breaks. So I was watching one movie and skipping channels when there was an ad break. And on another channel I noticed a movie (presumably British but I’m not sure) about cold war turning hot. I know one of the characters was a royal princess who starts to work as a nurse on a HM Warship (and has an unfortunate accident on her first day of duty). Another character was a general who was hypnotised to yell fire when somebody snaps his fingers. and on the last scene they are thinking about a response for an apparent launch, and the general freezes and somebody snaps his finger, and the general yells “fire!”.
That’s about all I remember. Any idea what moveie could that be? Is it worth watching? Thanks in advance for your help and have a nice day

No idea I’m afraid! However, the ending you describe isn’t that far removed from the excellent film “The Bedford Incident”. I won’t describe it in detail in case you identify it and wish to see it - trust me - one of the better Cold War (turning hot albeit accidentally) films there is - in my opinion of course.
If you do decide to see it - enjoy!
Hello!
Thanks a lot for your comment! I googled “The Bedford Incident” - sounds like a good movie and I think I’ll watch it, but it’s definitely not the one I was asking about. From what I recall the movie I mean was more comedic in tone and happened in more locations than just abouar one ship.
Thanks a lot anyway and have a nice day!
More ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance

I like to see m movies of tis genre whenever I find them. But this one I must say is one I have not seen, nor heard of.
The Bedford is one of the better Cold War movies, and it features a young Sidney Poitier.
And an even younger James McArthur… “Book ‘em Dano”
Yeah, I’ll try to find the Bedford online… But how about my original question… Anybody has any other ideas? Thanks in advance and have a nice day

Which year did you see this movie?
Any movies produced after that year can be disregarded.
Was it a movie or could it have been a television series?
If you could remember any of the actors it would be easy to find the movie.
Thanks a lot!
I guess I must have been between 2003 and 2007. That’s when I was working in Germany.
The movie itself probably wasn’t made after 1992 - movies about cold war and nuclear warfare stopped being popular after the Soviet Union fell apart quite safely. Unfortunately I don’t remember any actors that I recognized - otherwise I would probably find the movie myself. Like I said, I suppose the movie was british but I’m not so sure about that. Wonder if anybody on the forums here have seen that movie…
I haven’t seen it myself, so this is a complete guess, but the only British parody of WW3 starting I can think of is ‘Whoops Apocalypse’.
Could it be this?
Oh yeah!
This is from it’s wikipedia page:
“She calls a rear admiral, who was previously hypnotised to believe he was in a burning building when fingers are snapped. He ponders calling off the strike, but when a sailor snaps his fingers, he calls “Fire!” and the strike is launched.”
Just like I remembered it! Thanks a lot! I knew this forums has superhuman problem solving powers!
Thanks again and have a nice day

Seems like a winner!
"Although Wendy is rescued, Sir Mortimer ignores Adams’s pleas to call off the nuclear strike. She calls a rear admiral, who was previously hypnotised to believe he was in a burning building when fingers are snapped. He ponders calling off the strike, but when a sailor snaps his fingers, he calls “Fire!” and the strike is launched. "
Result!
I’m surprised I haven’t seen it already. Especially as it’s starring one of my heroes, Rik Mayall!
Will add it to my watch list over summer.
@Uncle-Heavy thanks for posting that. Could do with a good laugh. Anarchy, mindless violence and swearing! Exactly what I expect from Rik!
Yeah, who fires the deadly Depth Charge…
Fail Safe was a good movie too. So was the book. We had to read it in 11th grade.
Hello!
I’ve just finished watching it… Good entertainment, but also pretty sinister…
The situation in the world right now is a little too much like the one in that movie… And some people have their doubts about the quality of leadership of some countries as well…
Anyhow, thanks again for helping me find it! Have a nice day!

Alas, I regret that I can not help you…but your desription made me think of Dr. Strangelove.
Well, this sure ain’t The Final Option…
