MRP mr paint

Anyone used these paints? Thinking of picking up an Abrams kit and read a thread here suggesting FS 33531 is a good match for the tan paint. Sprue bros seems to only have this color in MRP. I’ve never used them so want opinions before I buy it with the Abrams

I’ve tried their acrylics and was not impressed. I’ve heard good things about their lacquers, but haven’t tried those yet. AK Real Colors makes CARC Sand in their line up and that would work for your Abrams. Now AK Real Colors I love. Use those with Gunze Mr Leveling thinner and you are golden for airbrushing.

I love AK real colors, wish sprue bros would start carrying them!

I’ve used two MR Paint lacquer-acrylic colors on a pair of Pz III’s. I think MRP is an excellent to outstanding paint based on that limited experience.

My opinions…

  1. I will only use it in an extremely well ventilated area and only with a respirator. It smells very bad to me.

  2. It sprays very well out of the bottle and is thinned already for airbrushing. My VL & Iwata Micron (.18 or .23mm nozzle, I forget) sprayed with no issues.

  3. Several thin coats, great for gradual color build up

  1. I like MRP Paint and I dislike most new hobby paints marketed since the Jurassic Age of Floquil

  2. I like that whatever is left over can go back in the bottle because it was pre-thinned by MRP without contaminating the rest of the paint.

  3. Airbrushes cleaned up very easy with Goof Off paint remover.

  4. The MRP bottles are easy to tip over being very narrow. My solution an old Paasche bottle as a holder.

Good to know! Thanks for the tips! I think I’ll take a chance on the MRP sand. Was the only color Sprue bros had that seemed good for an Abrams and I wanted to get it there so I could save the shipping by bundling it with the Abrams

I like scale hobbyist for sure! My dilemma in this case is that the Abrams I wanted was on sale at sprue bros, so I wanted to order the paint with it to save shipping. I have about a dozen AK real colors though and have used them in a Panzer I and Leopard 1. They sprayed beautifully and I like their diverse color range

The lacquer MRP paints are extraordinary. Don’t thin them, airbrush them straight from the bottle, and even then they are very thin. They are great for use with preshading. I’ve only used them on planes so far.

They definitely won’t be my go to, but they apparently have one of the more accurate sand
