New Revell M1097A2 Kit

Did anybody else catch this on Scale Mates? Revell just announced a New M1097A2 kit.

My guess is it’s a rebox of the ICM kit. Revell and ICM already do this as the ICM Leopard 2 with crew kit uses the Revell Leopard 2 kit.

Yup, I’m 99% certain that it’s an ICM-rebox. Scalemates is even using the same photo from the ICM box:

Well now that’s disappointing.

Don´t count to much on Revell of Germany. I spoke with the representantive for military kits a few yaers ago at the Nuremberg Fair. They customers are modeller buying in department stores and Bundeswehr soldiers. They don´t care for “professional” modellers like here. The moulds are made in China and the injection is done in Poland.

I was hoping for some diversity and competition.

Competion only happens when Tigers or Panthers are in the game. :unamused:

The Revell guy told that they pay average 500.000€ for a mold. Image how many kits they have to sell for this costs?

Yeah, us modern builders are kind of forgotten, but it’s getting better. We just need some people to scratch build a couple more vehicles and they will get kits.

Very true I’m an avid modeling podcast listener and have a new respect for the development process. At least they didn’t just repop the old kit.

No argument there. That why I build “exotic” models from scratch in the hope that somebody releases an injection kit.

People like me who cannot scratch build due to skill issues, thank you for your efforts sir.

I ordered one of them. Hoping to see something that’s not armored, like Academy’s M1151 but newly minted, unlike the Tamiya M1025/M1046. i wanted to build a standard cargo M1097A
and hope that ICM will bring an M1097, but with the 4-man soft top, like a non-armored troop command vehicle.

Maybe some amazing CAD person will do this I also want the full truck hard top that we had on our truck in my maintenance platoon.

Also, someone should come up with the troop seats for the kit.

Ooh! maybe 3D print the S-250 commo shelter too. Those are hard to find in 1/35.

The ICM M1097A2 kit is quite nice. By the way, the Italeri Command HMMWV top parts fit it perfectly to make a soft top version. I plan on doing one to represent my Command HMMWV in OIF 1…eventually.

Also, ICM already does one w/the rear troop seats.

Yeah! That’s the one i bought. “D’oh!”

They have the earlier version without the soft top or troop seats as well.

I’m still serious about getting an S-250 Commo Shelter done for it.
