And before anyone says it, it is not the Miniart, Italeri or Dragon kit for that matter. The number is 35394, which is in the Military Miniatures series reserved exclusively for kits that are 100% Tamiya production (the new Chaffee is 35391).

Next a RSO with Pak 40?
Not very exciting or inspiring, but I’ve “been there; done that” with the Italeri kit a couple of times over the last 50 years (having built my first one back in the '70s).
Having said that, hopefully Tamiya has done something to improve the accuracy of the earlier kits of the same subject. As much as I admire Tamiya’s usual superb kit design, engineering and production quality, to grab my attention with new kits of previously kitted subjects, they really need to make some sort or accuracy improvements.
If this is an all-new mold release, I’m sure it will be a pleasure to build but still kind of “meh” for a new release, though.
It will be interesting see what fans of the RSO have to say about how this kit stacks up against all of the previous kits of the same.

Look at the driver figure! No one has done that before! Im no a tamiya fan, but I am a RSO fan and will get this.
Fair enough. Tamiya’s latest generation of figures have, indeed, been excellent. I wouldn’t expect anything less here.
However, for me, a single new figure (no matter how well done) would not be the deciding line for choosing this kit over one of the earlier kits. For me, the only question would be which available kit is the most accurate (which is, of course, always a choice between degrees of compromises).
Hopefully we’ll see some close comparisons between the available existing kits, this one, and available references of the prototype. I’ve no doubt that Tamiya has done their part in that regard, but that’s also not to say that no one else before has done the same. In that case, simplifications and decisions to prioritize “buildability” over fidelity of detail might be the deciding factor.
I imagine this will be quite simple to build compared to the newer Miniart versions.
