NEWS: Hobby Japan 1:35 plastic Strv 103 kit

I just noticed this as announced on Scalemates:

That would be interesting. Trumpeter’s model while nicely looking seemed to have some dimensional problems. Let’s see how this is going to be. It has to materialize first…

I have the FH70 kit from Hobby Japan and it´s bloody excellent.

Strids wagon 103, is my all time favourite AFV, I have 2 in 1/35 and a 1/76.I know the Trumpeter has issues , but still builds into a decent near replica.
Undoubtedly I’ll have to buy this one if it gets good reviews.I dream of a 1/16 or 1/25…1/1😀

Looks interesting, might be time to upgrade from the trumpeter kit

You should then also get a copy of Tankograd Fast Track “Strv103” as long as stock lasts. Said by the author…

New model company for me. Very interested in the subject. Curious what it will cost. Wonder if any seller in the United States will carry it.

It would be nice if they included this feature,
we kept it secret for a loooong time …

Anti RPG cage? Modern day hedgerow device? Laundry rack? I give up

It’s a bar armor…

But, @Uncle-Heavy - how about that swimming feature? I bet you have some pictures of it with the swimming screen extended and the driver looking over the top of it!

I think I’m going to build a model of that swimming configuration in 1:72.

It was intended to break up incoming projectiles.
If one side of the projectile hits one of the vertical bars it will get a nudge sideways which would cause it to hit the main armour slightly sideways which reduces the
penetration capacity. High explosive shells would get shredded.
Note that this was designed before APFSDS-rounds, those are narrow enough to pass between the bars and if they hit a bar they will simply slice through it.

As I thought…. Just clowning around

The ribs across the glacis were also intended to break up incoming projectiles.
Don’t know if it worked or not. It did make the glacis easier to walk on and
I think it also prevented small calibre bullets from “sliding” up the glacis and
hitting periscopes and stuff.

This is what they would look like “in action”
Note that the “fence” is not installed, the mounting holes for the fence are visible.
I think there would have been plugs to hide those holes, but I’m not sure ..
The holes ought to have been plugged to prevent potential enemies from getting any ideas …

Maybe FC Model Trend will adjust their bar armour to fit the new kit?

Yup! I think it would be cool to build one like that…

I love it. A gated tank. No riff raff in this AFV. I want it to also come with a dog patrolling inside the fence.
