I’m sure this will be announced on the Armorama website by tomorrow but thought I should share anyway. I just got an email from Tamiya that shows photos of their new kit and a little info on it.
From the email:
Today, we have a new 1/35 scale model kit to unveil! We are happy to announce our latest 1/35 scale military miniature model kit of the German Tank Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf. B. We are proud to welcome this 100% new tooled kit into our 1/35 Military Miniature Series, as it means that the main German tanks of WWII are all now in our line-up!
This model kit recreates the German Tank Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf.B. Although Germany had been forbidden to develop tanks after the defeat of WWI, it developed the Panzerkampfwagen I under the name of “agricultural tractor” to deflect suspicions of rearmament, and the Pz.Kpfw.I became a mass- produced tank. The engine on the Ausf.B was upgraded to 100hp, nearly double the 57hp of the Ausf.A. Also, it had a 40cm longer hull, and a pair of 7.92mm MG13 machine guns were equipped. While the Pz.Kpfw.I was developed for training, it first saw live action in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and was widely used in various situations such as the invasion of Poland and the Eastern Front.
Don’t quite know whether to laugh or to cry. I was really hoping Tamiya would soon release a new WWII tank, and they chose the one that Academy is releasing soon too, and one which I have the Hobby Boss/Tristar kit of.
One hundred percent certain purchase and immediate build for me. Dragon and TriStar Panzer Is are very nice but also fairly complex. This will be the easy mode, fun Panzer I.
Hurrah Tamiya! Finally! Betcha this is gonna sell like hotcakes. I’m already overloaded with Dragon, Tristar, and Takom kits, but this looks like the perfect weekend / vacation / business trip build.
If the people at Takom want to give Academy and Tamiya some competition, they can reissue 2145. Hobby Boss can pump out more TriStar Panzer Is. Competition is good. Cheap is good.
I’d like someone to build both the Takom and the Tamiya one side-by-side and see how they compare; personally, I’ve not had that many issues with Takom’s fit, nothing major anyway. I’m sure the Tamiya one will fit like a dream though!
@Tank_1812 Thanks for sharing! I’ll probably grab one. (I mean, $20 plus shipping? That’s pretty sweet!)
