No More GI Joe

The army will be putting armor on it eventually

Yeah but can light infantry mount a TOW or .50 on those? If not then they still need the HMMWV.

And then it will become a Hummvee.

It can mount a .50. I see no reason it couldn’t mount a TOW.

What protection is offered the passengers? Looks cold, wet, and no resistance to bullet or shrapnel. I imagine the performance or load capacity will drop off when you armor the vehicle.

None! It’s just faster than walking.

Would it surprise anyone if I had a full walk around of it, with measurements?

If it can launch drones, it’ll fire missiles too:

Funny how the Jeep was I believe a military contract, then the M1008 CUCV off the shelf back to Humvee military contract back to this off the shelf.

You know there’s a 2-star out there pitching this thing while getting a nice kickback from whoever cobbled this thing together. Smedley Butler would be rolling in his grave (IYKYK).

I thought Big Army was replacing the HMMWV with the JLTV… WHat happened to the previous M1240A1 M-ATV? I thoguht it was a slick vehicle to begin with.

They’re even pitching the Chevy engine’s electrical output potential as a great way to not need as many generators and generator mechanics. That’s quite a stretch.
Maybe I’ll tell my girls I’ll just shut down the A/C in the house. We can all just sit in our cars during the day. It’s cheaper cos you know, you’re cooling way less volume…

Probably trying to see what’s not selling in the dealerships in civilian form. EVs were not the panacea everyone was hoping. Americans love their fuel guzzlers too much. I know i do.

The conventional US Army Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) version doesn’t come with armament although I guess the Soldiers can put machine guns where the passengers are, but that’s not the intended role of the ISV because it’s to ferry a squad of nine Soldiers into battle and have them dismount. Anything having stronger resistance, the 105mm M10 Booker was supposed to deal with it, but the M10 Combat Vehicle was canceled.

Only the US SOFs have the armed ISV, and it’s different looking than the conventional Army ISV. USSOCOM gave me permission to use this photo, and it’s Distribution A, free to the public. The SOF version has a fuller windshield with windshield wipers, turret ring, side ammunition racks over the cargo bed, side machine guns on swing arms, seats fewer troops, stronger suspension, off-road tires, and a rear spare tire rack. This US SOF ISV photo was taken in 2024 by US Army Public Affairs at an Open House at a base.

And despite what SECDEF said about canceling the HMMWV and JLTV program, I guess the US Army isn’t listening because they just bought more HMMWVs and AMPVs. You can’t maintain an army without replacing vehicles that wear out due to normal wear and tear and attrition.

No doors? Looks like a pick-up that was unwisely parked in my neighbourhood overnight…

This is so predictable. Someone will die in a rollover and the doors will come back. Someone will die in an insurgency and the armor will come back. Someone will want it to kill drones or other lightly vehicles or tanks and the weapons will come back. Someone will take it off road and bust the suspension and a beefier suspension will come back. Then it will be prone to rollovers, too heavy, too lightly built, and too slow, and someone will want a more beefy vehicle. It’s like. I don’t know. Maybe they need different vehicles for different jobs or something? No. No. That is crazy talk.

This is not new. I have seen this concept used before.

Looks like it would be great for Arctic ops!
