Non-Railway Modeller Needs More Help Please

Nicely done mate … and that will look neat once its incorporated into the scene … I wonder how many hundreds of those are left scattered around the UK…

Edit … that top image could easily be one of your dio’s !!

…me too, seeing that first photo - wtf?? he’s thrown in a jungle?? …totally garish unnatural colours…and next to the…hey where’s the bridge gone?? Fairly convincing wheelbarrow though…but the weathering on those cat-tracks looks terrible… :face_with_monocle:

Thanks to John, Robin and Tim, I’ll take that as a compliment, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi all,

A fellow modeller, whose work I greatly admire, once told me off for not bothering to model an element that was hidden below a vehicle, so would never be seen, it was me being lazy, but I took note Tim (Dioramartin), :+1: .

So today I roughed out a basic interior for the pillbox, it’ll never be seen once the roof is glued in place, but it’s there, :slightly_smiling_face:. I’ve also added an outer wall to close up the joints, and add steps to the embrasures, they’re cut oversize as I knew I’d never get them bang-on, but I’ll square them up before adding the bricks.

Cheers,,

Yikes somebody must be impersonating me – did I really say that?? :flushed: Well if so, my apologies G. because as I’ve got younger I’ve backflipped to the view that if it’ll never be seen…why bother? In short, from IKIT (I Know It’s There) to FILTS (…Life’s Too Short). And you’re too kind, you’ve been in my personal pantheon of Great Dioramacists since way back, no matter how hard you try you’ll never change my mind about that

Hi all,

My Type 24 pillbox is going to be too big for the given location, so will need using elsewhere, :unamused:.

So cobbled together a smaller Type 26 pillbox. Found an image of one alongside a railway line camouflaged as a Platelayer’s Hut, so decided to have a go at that.

Still a lot of work to do, but it gives you an idea of what it might look like. It’s going to be set into the embankment, so have created some steps and retaining wall.

Cheers,,

Hi all,

The camouflaged Type 26 pillbox construction almost finished. The image I found has the pillbox camouflaged as a lineside Platelayers Hut, with the verticals clad in what looked like old railway sleepers, and with a dummy chimney stuck on top.

Hopefully the primed item below will pass muster once it has been painted and partially buried into the landscape,.

Any comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,

G, that does not look like you live in merry 'ol Britain. Must be Wales?

Marvelous work. I echo what Tim said about you being in the pantheon of favorite dioramaists.

Thanks to John and Fred for their kind words, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

It’s Cornwall Fred, we have probably the mildest of climates in the UK, so we can grow some sub-tropical plants, :slightly_smiling_face:.

What is the current status?

Hi all,

Some small progress, a tad more work on the Type 26 pillbox. Like the bridge and rail track, I’m treating it as a separate element at this stage so I can work on it with relative ease.

I really struggle with painting timber, so apologise for the quality of the paint job, :face_exhaling:.

Base colours for the timber…

Now aged, and with a small area of base, including a concrete foundation…

Starting to add some detail scenery…

This is how it will slot in with the bridge and track…

Cheers,,

Nice progress my friend. Maybe it is the pics, but the wood does look a bit coarse to me…

Thanks to John and Erwin for their positive feedback, much appreciated chaps, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Some of the wood is probably a tad coarse Erwin when viewed through the camera, but hopefully less obvious with the Mk 1 eyeball,.
