9s are flying Jerry
The two way rifle range is not clear!
J
Great action shot with the casings. What did you use to hold them together and attach them to the MP40 with?
A thin strip of stretched sprue painted black. But I may change the color to medium gray to blend in better with the background.
J
Perhaps a very fine wire instead?
Its not hugely visible as it is- the bright brass is what I saw first then on a closer look you can see the sprue but the effect is top class.
you canāt get much thinner than the sprue I already used. It all has to do with the background I place it in front of.
J
My suggestion was based on relative strength. Sprue has to be thicker than metal wire. The thinner the material the less light will hit it.
Seeing the casings flying out is indeed awesome!
Yes,good point and I understand what you mean. The sprue here is the same thickness as the thinnest wire I have though.
J
Just for āfertilizerā and giggles if youāre interestedā¦ get a micrometer on some of that left over stretched sprue (if you have any). Iād like to compare that to some wire I have.
Seriously, if I have something thinner and rigid enough Iād mail it to you.
Looks amazing as always man!
Maybe clear sprue would work just as well for suspending the casings?
thanks man,
J
I found clear reflects light more where as black or dark gray blend in with the background.
J
Ok Jerry, so Iām gonna go out on a limb and say this; you could do a still photo movie of this entire action, full dio, and really show some incredible work. Have you ever thought of this, Bro? Seriously, this is some serious story telling if ever I did see it! What can I say, this is Nuts!!! In a great way, btw.
Ruck On, Bby!
Very kind words for sure Ski. Thank you Sir!
A book has been suggested and I am considering it. In the meantime you can download articles in the AFV Modeller magazine . So far they appear in edition number 119, 121 and 122 and downloading just my article costs about a buck 75 or whatever One Pound equals these days.
Thanks again brother!
J
Nice idea, for those spent casings, Jerry. But now youāll have to add that touch to the other gunners. A long string for that MG42!
Thanks man but the MG 42 burns through rounds quickly with a super high rate of fire. Which is why the gunners were trained well in trigger control using short bursts.
J
Youāre right, but even with the M60, I used to fire (with half the rate of fire), it was difficult to fire a burst of less than five rounds. In any case, nice work and thatās an interesting addition - the ejections.
Ralph
During my time I could fire even single shots with the LMG (it was around 40 odd years ago, so excuse me if canāt remember the make)
