Is this Polly scale paint able to be saved and used or is it garbage? It is acrylic

Dump it and buy new. Life is too short to hose a nice build with an old nasty paint!

Bin it. It looks like the carrier has gone bad. The paint should be more smooth and creamy.

Ditto to posts above.

Have you thinned it with something?

No just stirred it. I will toss it. Save the bottle though since it kept the paint from drying up all this time it should be fine to re use.

I save all my old Tamiya bottles, clean up spotless with some Windex

Back in high school days Polly S was my paint. It was great stuff.

I kept PollyScale for nearly 30 years, but eventually had to dump it. Very few paints will last that long.

Tnhat’s why it’s such a shame to let it go - some of the best paint I’ve ever used. As long as it has not gone completely rubbery you can revive it. First - warm distilled water. If it’s really thick, a retarder. any brand works. Befire you start, get rid of any hardened crap. Stir longer than you think is necessary, strain through panty hose. (I strain it even if it’s fairly new - you never know - an extraa minute of work can save headache later on.)

It was our paint of choice for game miniatures. Of course we had no idea about thinning it so years later when I stripped those figures to repaint it came off in sheets.

Pollyscale was great, and a real boon to the model rail community! That is, until Testors bought it out and then killed it. Sadly you’ll have to find another brand to replace those paints…

Funny thing, I still have some that I got in 1979 that they are still good. Label fell off but paints are still usable. Polly S always had a problem with yellow, red, flesh and white. They got gunky after opening.
Another brand is Humbrol. Got some paints in 1975 , 19 cents a tin, and they are still good. They might outlive me. LOL

I too have some Humbrol and others from the last century. Humbrol authentic even. Maybe from 40 years ago.

I used some recently, HX1 Dark Green and it’s excellent even with brush painting.

They are of course lacquer. That seems to last a long time.

As long as the lid is sealed and tight.

Goes without saying  The last time some of my paint saw daylight, it was when I had long hair, wore bell bottom trousers and shirts with massive collars.

So, last week then?

I’ll see your 40 years & disco-era paints and raise you, I have two tubes of Artist acrylic (Cryla) from 1972 – still usable.

speaking of tight lids what is it with the testors bottles? i can’t seem to keep them from drying out lately. meanwhile i have a few bottles from back in the 70’s that are fine. seems the newer bottles even before rustoleum bought them sucked.

I haven’t got the faintest idea since I don’t own any Testors bottles.
