Panzer IV - Corraling "The Workhorse"

Thank you, I see them listed online, but they do not look right, and their are a bunch of different ones.

@Floridabucco

I’m not absolutely sure the Aber MG34 parts I’ve used are 100% correct as research isn’t my baliwick. They are close enough I’ve been happy to use them.

Aber L-83 is the short MG34 for the turret
Aber L-63 is the hull MG35 w/an armor jacket

For what it’s worth, I gave up on buying the L-63’s as they have beome inconvenient to acquire at a decent price. Ebay shipping makes the Aber MG L-63 distasteful to buy. Basically, $10 per barrel.

The turret MG’s aren’t too bad.

So for the hull MG34, I’m going to try these in the near future. I can order from Sprue Brothers when I order other stuff and basically get free shipping.

Hope that helps.

Yes it did…thanks…those were the ones I was looking at also…like you said 10.00 a barrel is expensive…wonder why no one has 3d printed them, figure you can print 10 barrels at a time and still make good money doing it.

I’ve used a Master Model’s MG-34 Panzerlauf on my last Pz.IV build several months ago and it looks the part.

For the turret MG-34 no one can beat the RB Model’s offer.
Item 35B38, comes in a pack of 2 for 0.71 EUR/ 0.76 USD.
You can order from their website, they’re in Poland:
https://www.rbmodel.com/index.php?action=products&cat=c_bm&sub=35B

RB Models used to offer MG-34 Panzerlauf too- some years ago they cut their assortment drasticaly and I heard rumors they signed an exclusivity contract with Aber, so unfortunately- these can no longer be bought from them…

RB Model also have a very good price for 2 m. German Aerials(0.89 EUR/ 0.95 USD per piece).

I have no affiliation with RB Models, I’m just a happy customer!

HTH,
Cheers
Angel

I just ordered a set from Scale Hobbyist…I also ordered a couple of the new Atom paints, so shipping was not a concern.

Thank you for the suggestion, but shipping to the US really hikes up the price.

There were priorities on return home etc like catering to a spolied cat.

Thought I was back on track today, started to unpack model from return trip today and hope to have bench time.

Almost a repeat of last year, a nasty storm brewed up. Powers out again with no estimate on restore eight hours into it being out.

The plastic shed for the mower blew away.

Found it a yard over and tossed it back over the fence.

Starting to think this Pz IV F2 is going to be another struggle bunny…

Now thats a storm!

If the roads aren’t blocked and your roof is in one piece, you’re fine.

Surprised by your comment. What’s your intended communication?

For the record, I’m venting about a bit of bench flustration with a stubborn shelf queen, a random event that’s interfering with my build and sharing it in my build thread blog.

Nothing more annoying then being without power for several days. there goes the food in your fridge and freezer

Kali hinted it’s time to return to the normal routine today. Working towards getting past build block and back in the groove.

Started sorting what I’d taken to Carolina plus items purchased during the trip.

Well stocked on old sets of On The Mark PE for Pz III, Pz IV & KV less than $10. Happy to acquire Model Kasten wing nuts plus a Cal Scale .50 M2 ammo box with belt. Scored a lot of old products, I still value at the MegaShow plus some newer products like AK Stillwater.

Couldn’t resist the Tamiya Lacquer versions of Dark Iron & Rubber Black. Likewise, the old AirWar military book club copies for $5 each seemed worthy. Read a friend’s copy of the books thirty years ago and decided to add to my library.

An interesting (to me) story about one of the vendors, a “seniorpreneur" aka retired Baby-Boomer entrepreneur. At a storage locker auction, she’d won the bid on a locker full of nice looking carefully organized boxes…which turned out to be a modeler’s book collection & model kit stash. On the brightside, she had many excellent deals on the table.

Irony donated ~5 kits but acquired 10 replacements…getting close to upgrading from “model stash” to "dragon’s hoard…

LOL Wade I’m the same way. I’m a “Velcro Shopper”. I don’t intentionally buy anything in a vendor room, I just wander about for 5 hours and stuff just sticks to me and comes home with me. I never know how much I have until I get home and dump it all out, usually to my surprise, and NEVER in front of SWMBO!

Love it, thanks for sharing.

Definitely, entered the Velcro Zone, that’s an excellent description! There’s plenty of adventurous modeling to share…wink.

Hopefully, getting back on track this week.

Repaired the three models damaged on the return trip from IPMS Roscoe Turner’s meeting last month. I’ve never had three models damaged in one trip before but it is what it is. Upgraded my transport boxes so that should end the issue.

Decided to use that fat stash to my advantage being home and skip the resin casting for the moment. One of the Dragon Pz IV J’s kits with straight exhaust pipes has spare muffler, brackets and auxiliary muffler.

Several years ago the kit was acquired in a trade with a good friend. Sometimes he got a little happy with the cigarettes :smoking: as shown on the instructions.

:no_smoking:

Anyway, we have sweet spare Dragon parts for the old Gunzy Pz IV now.

The exhaust pipe on the auxiliary muffler has to be relocated but that’s a minor tweak.

Venting rant…on

Two trips to the ER & doctor, wife hurt her back & broke a rib after sliping on stair at her mom’s house, mother-in-law tripped shattered an arm, had surgery to bolt it back together, next our water heater rusted out and the house had to be replumbed.

My 02 Z28 had to be moved to replace water heater. Naturally, the 7 year old $79 battery (2018) died in my always reliable 02 Z28! Store wanted $249 plus tax for the equivalent replacement. Talked, my way into a new battery for $166 with tax out the door.

off

Felt some inspiration today after reading the forum, hit the workbench and worked on mufflers.

The spare Dragon parts proved very useful. The auxiliary muffler needed the exhaust pipe drilled out and repositioned for a Pz IV F2.

Added a bolt detail to muffler.

Jeez Wade, I had a similar sort of day (though not quite as gruelling); today was the one day a week my wife goes actually into work as opposed to “Working From Home” (Living At Work more accurate but don’t get me started). Soooo, I was looking quite forward to that - a “free” day with a modelling schedule all planned and I reckoned, with a fair wind, I could finish my M103/RU 251 project and fit in a pub lunch.

0530hrs; Wife leaves home with dog for early morning walk. Me? I slumber on.

0610hrs: Phone rings - eventually breaks into my dreams. Wife: “I’ve fallen over and banged my head”.

I won’t bore you with the details; suffice to say trip to hospital, Accident & Emergency (A&E) by 0645hrs. No sign of Doctor; I mean Jeez, how many other patients does he have at that time in the bloody morning? I return home to ensure dog is OK (priorities people, priorities).

0845hrs: Just got through the door when I get a call, “Come and get me”. Aaargh. Back to A&E fighting work traffic all the way.

Return home c.1015.

Funnily enough, the gloss sort of fell off the day(!)

Best laid plans and all that eh?

Wife? Oh yeah, she’s fine, she’s fine.

Brian, that sounds like a rough turn of events. Definitely understand how telhe gloss fell off the radar. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better and good hobby wise too!

Everyone is doing well and recovering on this end as well except for the checkbook post replumb.

Good to hear it - sometimes I do indeed think life is a (constant) conspiracy against one, or at least against the hobby(!)
