Be a nice visual effect when its together hanging over a landing craft
Looking really good thus far Alan, models of docks/piers/quays are always interesting, so I’m looking forward to following this build, .
G,
Thanks for looking in G, appreciated. Just working on replacing the steps/ladders in the lighthouse as the originals were very off scale. I fixed the L/H base so I can finish off around the join and place the fuel supply for the Genny. Some figures to go into the radio room, MP on the door to a Restricted Area, lookouts on top, and a M/C courier arriving with docs. There are a mass of things to get done and get right. Good fun through. First time in years I’ve had the time or motivation to get on with it.
Alan
Is it based on an actual location Alan, or is it fictitious? I’ll be looking for inspiration as I am hoping to build a diorama with the 1/72nd Revell Flower docked alongside a quay.
G,
More quaysides and buildings … The fun starts again… Get that research done G !!
Morning G, No, not based on any specific place. I looked at a lot of coastal locations, some memories from home, the old piers back in Bangor Co Down where there were a lot of Americans stationed around there during WW2.
Troops move in! Some Figures moved into the 1st floor, 2 RN chaps in the radio and 2 Soldiers in the snug drinking tea, Set out a few bods around the entrance and side. New ladder in place. Need some grab posts at the top and a little more work around the entrance but you’ll get the idea.
Alan
Morning folks, a bit more progress:
Mechanic in the Genny Room
Some stowage outside the main door:
Activity on the top:
Fueling point
A look down the pier. More petrol cans and drums to make and a trip to the attic to look for the Naafi Van and Crane boom (again!!) I made 3 new more in scale ladders with grab posts at the top.Added the linking wall on the balcony which needs more painting. I have toyed with the idea of a set of Lewis Guns on the balcony and probably need an Officer type looking out too. Anyway getting near the finish on the main building.
I did find my rats and seagullls to add at the end.
Alan
Very very nice. A lot of very clever additions and a good approach to how it is all being set out so it doesnt seem to get to busy or confusing … I like the idea of perhaps a small Lewis AA type gun set up (but covered with a tarp?) in the corner of the walkway area where the 2 matelots and officer are ??
Morning John,
Thanks for looking in. I have a RN Officer and a WREN Dispatch rider from D Day Miniature plus some odds and sods to enhance the Naval element. Not sure which m/c she was made for so another bike required. Very much a combined Operations job, need a QM and list checker, I have dockers for the crane and I have the American Army set for the LCVP that should work fine on land as troops waiting to board. I keep discovering things like the fuel set I bought years ago that I’d forgotten about… I have Lewis Guns somewhere from my LRDG builds so that’s a possibility. The Naafi Wagon is quire small as I recall, so it should fit well and I have plenty of tea drinkers! I also have a lot of British marching Infantry and I had thought about a column snaking around the front and rear of the lighthouse and off down the end of the pier. We’ll see how much space there might be as things develop.
Cheers
Alan
All sounds good mate … a nice busy but realistic scene
Nice scene with all sorts of stories… Just the way (I think) it should be for such a large dio…
very impressive!
Thanks John, and thank you all for looking in and you comments.
Appreciated.
Alan
I’ve been working on the Mobile Canteen. This is progress so far.
Also under construction are some American GI’s who will be waiting to board.
Thanks
Al
Nice splash of colour as well.
Thanks for looking in John. We see so much stuff in B & W from that period, it’s easy to forget all the colour.that was around, one reason I added the post and phone boxes. When I get to the boats that should help brighten it up a bit too.
Alan
Watching this one all the way … its a great build
Hope this one is still being worked on …
Words fail me -
Hi John,
I’d been working on some GI’s, but got interrupted by a Heart Attack at the end of March, so had been in hospital for a while and have just been adjusting to the new reality of life. I’ll get on with things in the coming weeks. I’ll post a couple of updates next week.
