Public apology, acetone as "glue" for styrene

I have claimed that acetone does not glue styrene.

This was and is WRONG. Totally wrong.

I have now tested with supermarket acetone (nail polish shelf)
on some scrap styrene and convinced myself that I was
WRONG.
Live and learn …

I still prefer ethyl acetate (smell is less aggressive …)

Probably a non issue.

Sometimes you just know what you know, and ignore inaccurate statements. Unless of course they’re from one particular poster. Then you keep track and mock him on occasion when you’re bored.. Not you, of course.

And this is a very good liquid cement for plastic Model kits. I found it on ebay after the tip Off

Tamiya airbrush cleaner works wonders too!

Yes it does but here in the UK Tamiya products are really expensive. The one I have posted is larger and
A lot cheaper than the Tamiya cleaner in the UK.:slightly_smiling_face:

Thank for posting as I suspect it will be News
For quite a few people :folded_hands:

Tamiya a/b cleaner, pink top, is just about unobtainable, I got mine from Italy with the last week of my Student ‘free shipping’ deal.

Mr Tool Cleaner is at least findable.

Hi, if it stinks, no thanks. Otherwise the NEW Tamiya pale blue top NO ODOR (their spelling) is good glue, not too fast, but really DOESN’T smell.

I came across a YouTube video on this as a glue. He demonstrated it and it appeared to do a good job so I thought I give it a try. Most if not all the Mr. Hobby stuff I have tried have lived up to the claims. No big loss if it doesn’t glue to my liking it can still be used as a cleaner.

As to price on Amazon USA Tamiya (1.35 fl oz) is $6.34 per fluid oz. and Mr. Hobby (13.5 fl oz) is $1.92 per fluid oz.

As I STATED in the UK we pay almost double for some of Tamiya products
I made it clear it works for me and the price is good :+1:t2:

Every body can make their own mind up on anything
They want to use or not to use in the pursuit of Modelling models .

I wasn’t aware Tamiya products were so pricey there! Neat to know there are other alternatives!

Had no idea it was hard to find where you are. I can get it literally anywhere I look in North America and it’s $11 for 8.5 ounces :person_shrugging:

Are we sure that just because it doesn’t smell it’s OK? I’m no chemicals expert so I’m only asking an innocent question…and I’m certainly not suggesting anyone inhales the odourless for several minutes to confirm it

I recall that we were always advised that Soviet nerve agents were odourless; choking agents however, purportedly smelt of “new mown hay”.

Something to do with COSH/Safety labels not being in English… I suspect that T@m1y@ would rather sell the Extra Thin at 6 times the volume price.

Mr T’s company is also ‘known/suspected’ to stop supplying kits to any retailer that sells below retail price.

That is stupid if a retailer wants to sell the kit a discount price and he’s paid Tamiya it’s should not affect Tamiya.

Tamiya prices are overpriced anyway !!!

Most of there catalogue consist very old kits

If one seller wants to sell at a loss or near zero profit that could indeed be that sellers business
BUT
that choice undercuts the business for other sellers who may then choose to stop selling the
product in question since they do not want to sell at a loss (no sale is better profit than huge sales at a loss).
