Questions and Project updates about Mini Art T-55 Mod. 1963 37018

I’m looking for a T-55 Mod. 1963 INTERIOR KIT 37018 for my upcoming project. I think I found one and I’m very excited to get it. I will also be getting SOVIET TANK CREW 1960-70s 37037 by Mini Art. My first question is where’s is the exhaust to a T-55?

Anyways,
Thanks for looking,
Me

Some advice if you have never built a MiniArt T55. I haven’t built one of their interior kits so the assembly sequence may be different from what I am about to describe. The instructions would have you add the torsion bars and fittings before building the hull. As the hull pan is flimsy it is difficult to ensure proper alignment. You should build the lower hull first. This will make pan considerably more rigid helping to ensure a better fit and alignment of the running gear. I have built more than my share of MiniArt T55s and figured that the best way to go was what I just described after my first build. Overall they are fiddily builds with some small and fragile parts but in the end finish up nicely. Hope this is helpful.

Yes, they can be very fiddly but persevere and you’ll end up with a nice result.

Okay next question

During the Cold War did the Soviets ever use White wash during the winter???

I have not seen a Soviet T-55 in whitewash. I have seen East German, Finnish, Bosnian, Croatian and the Chinese version.

Not a Russian but a Polish T55. Perhaps the Russians might have used something similar.

Hi folks,
How are you today? My next question is this. Ive noticed a picture about the tank shells are greyish color. Not brass like the instructions says. What would be a good color to paint them? Please advise me
Cheers,
Tom

Can’t speak to what the actual colour should be - but generally speaking, real life references over instructions any day. Not just with colors as orientation of parts are also questionable.

In some cases though it may be that there are two truths to the same topic. Particularly with soviet subjects I’ve found.

Tom,
Those cartridge shells look like Tamiya XF-65 Field Grey to me. I think that’s the closest you’re going to get.

Hi there,
I have Barley Grey and Medium Sea Grey on stand by. I have a test sample drying right now. I will let you know what color I pick. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards Tom.

Hey troopers,

It’s me again. I think I will be making a diorama in the Ukraine Conflict like 2023. For my choice of paints for the shells, I’m thinking like Barley Grey will work good for it.

I found a website the I will share with you. They make 1/35 Cope Cages for Russian tanks. So I’m like model geeking out with my tank model right now. And having the cope cage already made, it will save me a couple swear words if I was to build that part by myself. So worth the investment.

Two thumbs put for this company,
This is my first time trying out a 3D printer part.

Cheers,
Tom D

Okay here’s today question.

What paint colors do I need for the current Russian tank and Infantry crew?

Here’s a picture I’ve screen shot it for it

I think with units currently fighting in Ukraine there’s a big difference between official issue and what is actually worn. Check out the “ modelling armor in the Ukraine crisis “ thread for some ideas. You’re planning on depicting a Russian army crewed T55 ? I didn’t think they were that desperate for armor and assumed the ones that have appeared in the area were in use by local militia types.

My next question is what colors for their uniforms? I’m thinking like base in Light Green Khaki, and the Camo part to be like Protective NC from Ammo Acrylic?

What are your thoughts?

My thought is that it’s too fine grained to paint the camo decals, but you might search out decal sheets in that pattern; they seem to be proliferating recently.

My last diorama was a Canadian C2 Leopard 2A6M with crew. And it did the camo by using a toothpick with a square end. Dab that in your paint, and tada you got digital camouflage. Just a lot of patience.

Tom
