Revell AH-1G build

Ive had 2 of the old Revell 1/32 AH-1Gs sat in my stash for ages. Recently got thw Werner’s Wings conversion to the AH-1F so thought id better start building them

Starting with the AH-1G and got a few update sets for the kit. The first is the Metallic Details set for the cockpit along with the Eduard set.

It really does make a difference

The control panels are pre printed

And i updared the gunners control yoke slightly

The MD set comes with belts for the seat, though suprosingly only one set of latches

Next will be painting

Old revell kits can really be a hassle to work with, but you did a great job.

So apart from the kit, heres a list of updates i have…
Eduard 33288 cockpit panels (its for the late G but…)
Metallic Details 3219 cockpit interior
Metallic Details 3218 Emerson M28 turret
Metallic Details 3220 exterior detailing set
Metallic Details 3212 M18 gun pod with M134 minigun
ResKit 320108 main rotor
ResKit 320107 exhaust nozzle
CMK 5144 M35 armament subsystem

That should build into a decent representation

Im using this as a reference

About the only major thing i need to scratch will be the magazines for the M35 system, but they look fairly ease shapes so I’ll give them a go

Most of the update sets are for the ICM kits but i should be able to make them fit

It is coming along great. The Metallic Details sets add a lot of missing details.

These look very interesting, great job on the seats! Really interested in seeing this progress. How big is this thing exactly?

the fuselage is 400mm nose to tail. if you include the rotor then it’s 500mm

Im waiting on another set of belts for the seats so today ill be working on outting together the weapons.

Its a new boxing of the kit so they include an updated weapons sprue

It includes new stub wings, 2x19 shot ffar launchers, 2x7 shot ffar launchers, a couple of aerials and fod covers

The M28 turret has various configurations of weapons available, 2 grenade launchers and 2 miniguns

The M18 gun pod comes with a separate fairing so you can show off the minigun inside if you like

And the M35 includes an update to the ammunition fairings which i have to scratchbuild

The M18 is beautifully detailed

Something I’m thinking of adding is an XM8 smoke grenade dispenser. It looks simple enough to scratch

The newer rocket pods came out nice. Im contemplating whether to try and add the notched ring for the breakaway fairings or not

The M35 was abut of a pig to line up the barrels but it makes into a nice kit

The M28 turret has an issue in that the weapons dont fit inside. Going to have to do some filing…

Coming along real nice. It’s an older mold but with some TLC it turns out great.

The rotor goes together very easy with only a slight modification to the kit rotors

Apart from one set of seatbelts and the cooling hoses to the seats, the cockpit tub is done. Definietly an improvement over the original

A bit of work on the fuselage tonight, opening up some vents for new grills and adding the additional armour for the M35 system, apparently added to protect the pilot from the minigun blast?
They were just eyeballed from pictures in the reference book

I also started on the additional ammo containers. Didnt have any measurements and couldnt find any photos of it side on. So i went to Scalemates, downloaded one of the sets of instructions for the ICM kits that have these, screenshot it then blew it up to the correct size and used it as a template.

I also marked out the canopy ready for cutting for the access doors

And fixed the separate panel on the fuselage that would show part of the engine on the kit
