Yeah, I can’t imagine that anyone would paint around smoke discharger cups or tool straps; I note that the strap securing the Jerrican on your model appears to be metal (I’m afraid I can’t quite be bothered to look back at images of the real thing) - in fact it must be given the clasp - so would in all likelihood be the colour of the vehicle when it was painted pink.
