Sci-Fi and Alternative History Campaign IX

I was actually thinking of the same reply about the wheels, when I saw your post.

Thank’s for having a look guys!

@ John (Johnnych01). It will be fun… I hope. Until something better presents itself, I was thinking of this scheme. Warning: I’ve never done a lick of camo before. I tend to hide in plain sight. :deciduous_tree::crazy_face::evergreen_tree:

Anyway, that’s a far, far, ways away. I hope to rely on your expertise/s on that subject. :art::paintbrush:

Here’s some more from today…

Upper disc 3-segment assembly (underside).

Inspector No. 172: I see what appears to be an upside-down soup bowl. And lots of green tape. … Where ist the gloo!!! :face_with_monocle:

Still going without glue. I wonder how much longer we can last? :fuelpump::grin:

About the wheels: There will be so many impossibilities to come that you won’t even notice them… This is “Sci-Fi” after all. :flying_saucer:

PS: I’ve taken-up enough “space” in this thread for now. It’s somebody else’s turn. Please post your works so I can learn from your wisdom. :books:

C’mon Mike you’re makin’ me nervous. Throw some glue at that thing.

@ Mathew (SSGToms). Okay, I’m buckling to your pressure… a little dab’ll do ya.’ Just the bottom disc 'cause I need to begin Franken-Modeling it soon. :straight_ruler: :triangular_ruler:  :hocho: :carpentry_saw: :axe: :hammer_and_wrench:

The moldings are very clean and fit is extremely good so far. I’ll be using Tamiya (87012) Regular Cement since the alignment pins and joint surfaces are huge — like Lego connectors.
:memo: Note to self: Don’t get used to it.
:memo: Second Note to self: Order more glue, more putty, more Styrene, more stuff!

One thing to watch out for: At first glance this looked like all flash, however they are rivets running along the bottom dome’s circumference (Part B3).

[EDIT] Gotta keep moving…

The very scary cut happened today!:sweat_smile::hocho:

… and the plug.

Looking great, Mike!

As I had a bit of time this afternoon, thought I would make a start on the Kelvin.
Some shots of the plastic first.

Has some good engraved detail on the hull parts. Looks a little heavy, but should look better under some paint. I like the docking ports on the engineering hull, those are nice done. And you have optional parts to show the phasor cannons in firing position or stowed behind the hatches.

And optional decals too. One set is clean and the other has slight scuffs and wear as was seen in the film. Not sure yet which I’m going with.

The display base is really nice and represents the ships dedication plaque mounted on the bridge wall. This will reward some careful painting. Thinking of going with bronze and the details picked out in gold.

@ Stephen (phantom_phanatic). The universe is vast… glad to see I’m not alone out here! :sparkles::man_astronaut:

The kit looks very nice. Interesting about the two decal options. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that before.

Thanks Mike.
Never seen it offered either, but it’s a nice addition to the kit. The effect is very subtle and really only noticeable on the larger text and numbers.

I started tonight with the side pieces around the saucer. Bit tricky to get lined up and you do have to be careful. Still a slight gap between each piece. A few other builds I’ve seen around the internet and YouTube have also had this problem, no one seems to have found a way to get them to fit properly. Getting curved pieces to fit perfectly around a circle is very difficult. Important thing is to get them level and deal with the gaps later.

My plan is to slide a piece of plastic strip between them, sand flush and re-engrave the detail. Test fitted the nacelle and hull parts and found those to be damn near perfect. Not a gap or step between them!

Some great looking builds here, both previous and current.

On the Haunebu, I wonder if the wheels would be able to independently pivot. I have to think it would need some taxiing/parking/towing ability. Interesting craft though, for sure.

Still deciding on what to build for this one. Perhaps a Maschinen Krieger or Gundam. I hope to start soon though.

Happy Modeling,
Zon

@ Zon (Zonarch). Perhaps if the gear was single vertical struts with double-wheels it could have had that capability. I’ve seen other kits like that — even with foot-style landing gear. But the ‘Haunebu II’ with impossible gear is the one I’m building — just for the coolness factor. :hammer_and_wrench::grin:

Thanks for the reminder - trying to get it done. :+1:t2:

Very unproductive today, but from last night… a major glue session happened!

Hope to do more hackin’-n-scratchin’ tomorrow. :hocho: :hammer_and_wrench:

Mike, I suppose it would be much more difficult to pivot with 3 wheels. Had not considered that. The coolness factor is very high though

That thing looks big! Taken over your workbench even at this early stage.

Today I got those gaps in the saucer fixed. Slipped a bit of plastic strip between them and then sanded flush.

Meanwhile, back at the ‘Gestank funktioniert’ (stink works)… I made a pattern layout for the accordion bay door. :scissors:

Bomb bay door closed… :upside_down_face:

Bomb bay door open… :upside_down_face:

…open. :upside_down_face:

… oh, now I see. :upside_down_face::face_with_spiral_eyes::nauseated_face:

Okay. So I didn’t get as far as I’d hoped. Anyway, here’s the Styrene bay door. :hammer_and_wrench:

Red 3 - Biggs Darklighter, opened the box an have it sitting next to the Red 2 for the Big 3 Campaign. Not shown, and because I am a glutton for punishment, I opened a third kit for Red 4 - John D. Branon. I am planning on concentrating on the pilot figures and interiors first, like an assembly line.
