I planned to do sub-assemblies and realized before I can do that, I have to do all the PE. So, the mess you see is PE being put on various parts of the Schwimmy.

So today has been a good day for progress on this build. Yesterday I was able to apply the cockpit instrument decals

Today I painted Flat Black where needed and then closed up the fuselage

thought about drilling holes then adding knobs where needed on the upper center console, but decided against it to keep with the OOB spirit of this project…

Next up, seam clean up then some scribing to replace lost detail…

Small amount of progress on Leopard. It would appear this kit is based on the ’ Batch 50 but with incorrect radiator/ exhaust grilles.

T-62 nearing finishing stage. These to models are really just going to be straight out of box pieces

with few modifications.

Looking for something else earlier today, I pulled out the old Pzkpfw IVD and I thought why not build this? I’m sure a lot people built this one back in the day.
At least until I can get around to picking up that Leopard.

Found the newer and separately available Pzkpfw IV accessory sprue on the box. Don’t remember picking that up, but must have had the idea of using it.

I’ll be doing it in the Afrika Korps markings. OOB, probably only add some stowage. I think I have Tamiya’s jerrycan set lying around somewhere. Not sure what to do about the crew though? They look suitable for Poland and France, but not the Sahara desert!

Reposition their limbs and depict them dead from heat stroke?

Good thinking!
I’ve only ridden in the back of an FV432 once, in November, and it felt like I was being roasted alive. It must’ve been evil inside these things on the desert!

I’m surprised Tamiya don’t do a separate Afrika Korps tank crew set. I can only find infantry and the 88 gun crew on searches. I think I have a Miniart or Masterbox set, but it’s not in keeping with the campaign. Could always put them in after of course.

That is fine to add those figures. Be a different story if you wanted to add Tamiya figures to a Miniart kit for the campaign. That would not really be in the spirit of the campaign.

Today I had a few hours at the bench to work on this one… First I sanded up the fuselage halves join seam then rescribed lost detail in those areas. Afterwards I started glueing parts into place… radome, intake mouth, wings, ventral strakes, stabilators and vertical stabilizer… I also cleaned up the main seams on the drop tanks and added their noses…

next thing I knew, I had something that was starting to look like a F-16… I still have a bit more sanding to do on the parts that I added today, then it will be time to start getting some paint on this bird…

Made a start on the Achilles, goes together really nicely as you’d expect.
And did a basic paint up of the inside

And the rear plate.

Have also cleaned up and primed the sponsor ammo racks. Will paint them by brush later.

Good choice but I would have liked to see your take on the Chally2 as I am just about finished mine OOB.

I was going to ( and have been keeping track of yours BTW and it is looking nice) but I really wanted the engine mesh and found a set online which I was waiting for. I will probably do the Cr2 Next … saying that, if I get this done quick enough, I could do it here as well.

That looks nice.
When I did Academy’s years ago, probably not long after it’s release, I had to scratch build the shell racks. They left in the 3inch racks from the M10 boxing.

The F-16 and P-47 are also coming along nicely.

Can’t find that set of Miniart figures, they might be in a box in the attic. But I did find this set by Dragon that might do the trick. Will keep looking as the Miniart set might be better, it’s the maintenance set that has the crew cleaning the barrel.

This is probably opening up a can of worms, but colours are proving to be a bit of a puzzle.
I’ve got the set by AK and Vallejo’s RAL 7021 and RAL 8000, so did a quick paint test on the bottom of the hull.

Now I can see how the AK grey might be a faded shade, but the 8000 is totally different. The Vallejo does appear closer to how the Tank Museums Tiger was painted from memory. I’ll do some Googling.

Beautiful work Johnny. But I would suggest OD for the floorboard areas visible under the turret, with this being an open topped AFV.

Scalemates seems to suggest a connection to Hasegawa but Tamiya claims it is a new tool, so will this qualify?

All my Tamiya kits are relatively new; other than the FAMO which I am not ready to begin they all are from this century. I built Bandai as a kid.

Thanks Carlos. I was wondering about the extent of the OD/ dark green. I have seen a few images of insides that show the 7 hinged floor panels and 2 steps as OD but the floor plate itself as white still ? Unsure of the best way to go. The floor will be getting a very dirty wash and filter at the end so thats going to kick right back ??
