Some teasers from my visit to the USAACC yesterday 14 August

Pray tell, what is that last thing!

Looks to be a rocker arm shaft and cam with roller followers . Six rockers so either an inline six or V 12.

Yes, but for what? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Good question - if they belong with the cylinder heads on the shelf below it is not likely an aircraft engine as the heads appear to be cast iron .
I don’t know much about power for armor other than various radial engines and the Ford GAA Y block used on Shermans IIRC . The GAA was a V8 and I believe it was aluminum so the objects in question are not from that power plant.

I don’t think it can be from a V 10 as there are six rockers .

DINGDING-
Now what 12c engine would someplace like The Armor & Cavalry Collection have just laying about?

Those are camshafts.

A Maybach, or a Continental, or a Russian V - 2?

Also interesting - the last rocker arm ( opposite end from timing gear) in the photo foreground has a bigger flange than the others so it must be under more load … ??

The Collection is home to the OLDEST Tiger E in captivity. VERY low fahrgestell number, all matching but one fender piece and the gun mount. The turret had a through-and-through that required a new one, we surmise.

The engine ran fine when captured in Tunisia early in 1943 (January- Tiger 131 was captured in April 1943). It ran fine when sent to Le Havre, and on arrival at APG.

712 is from batch 1, and 131 is from batch 2. Both from Kassel.

It’s not clear if the engine was damaged, or merely ignored. The engine was damaged during removal by a third party, well before the Collection acquired it.

What you see on the shelves are cylinder heads and camshafts for FahrgestellNummer 250031 (Tiger 712). The engine is the HL210, same as that used on Tiger 131 (FahrGestellNummer 250122). Both engines are P45 (650hp)

I can’t say (I would if I knew). I lack sufficient knowledge to explain.

So here it is then…

Maybach HL 210 .
I have a suspicion you knew all along and that’s ok .
Detective work is fun.

I spy with my little eye a DD under rebuild?

Is this a large hatch or small hatch M4A1?

That’s it. And, yes, I knew what it is, and just wanted to have some curiosity bubble to the surface. You get the Kewpie Doll! Or a miniature Tiger E, I’m not sure.

I’ll admit I didn’t ’ make note of the type (I looked at the hatches, just didn’t register the hatch-type). I spent time inside looking at the Gunner’s periscope and mount, with the idea I might steal it for ITM-III. I didn’t: the doghouses are dissimilar, and the DD has an M4 periscope, vice and M8.

I’ll be there on the 29th and add pics.

Stik!
It is large hatch. This is headed to the Fort Campbell museum around 1 Nov 2025.
