Bigger than 1/72? Revell and AMT make a version.

Anybody ever play the RTS Homeworld back in the late 90’s early 2000’s?
That game had a lot of really good looking ships.

I remember finding a website years ago that downloadable files for card kits you could print out. Think they’re still on my old laptop.

Yes, the Revell 1/72 Razor Crest is very nicely put together. I have mine sat next to a Fine Molds Falcon in the same scale, a shame it no longer appears on The Mandalorian, though his converted Naboo fighter cuts a dash on the screen. Having just watched Andor, (again) I’d say Luthen’s ship, the Fondor, would make, and probably will make, a great model, but when is anyone going to bring out a TIE Bomber? Bandai, Fine Molds, AMT/ERTL and Revell have made some great TIEs, (and a few dodgy ones)but apart from a couple of resin kits years ago, no one has made the iconic TIE Bomber.

Oh, and thanks for posting the photo of the Valley Forge, that truly is an epic work of art from the days when most models in sci-fi films weren’t that great, (2001’s Discovery notwithstanding). And am grateful for the replies to my first post, not every site is as welcoming of newcomers.

The SSD is about the same size but has some lovely detail for such a tiny model. In fact, all the wee box Bandai SW kits are very nice, I managed to buy a Death Star trench kits a few years back and while it is nice as it is I have two kits in 1/144 that have a TIE ands Vader’s TIE, so wiull be lengthening the trench and having the trio of TIEs chasing Red 5. That is when I eventually get round to it, right now I’m still on 1/35 German tanks from WW2/+what ifs, (yes, I fall foul of the ModelCollect kits of the weird and wonderful paper panzers).so my next series of kits will be who knows when.

I opted for the Revell Razor Crest because of the interior detail although the AMT supposedly is easier to light. I am not a fan of Helmet Head flying the Naboo fighter now; just doesn’t seem ‘Mandalorian’ enough for a warrior of his type.

I want to do a trench scene myself but have been a bit hesitant to get another TIE set as I didn’t need an extra of Darth’s ship. However, I could do it as a standalone display I suppose.

Nice to see the Bandai kits are showing back up in the U.S. again. Just saw a few Y-Wings at the HobbyTown in Kennesaw at a more reasonable $42. Hoping the A-Wing reappears soon as that is the only one of the 1/72 fighters I am missing.

Destiny 2 has a lot of cool Exotic Ships that are ripe for 3D modeling and model kits, be they made of plastic or resin. :grinning:

At the very least; a nice Sparrow with a Guardian rider on it would be the bee’s knees.

Ah, the Destiny 2 Sparrows come in many flavors and sizes :grinning:.

I luckily managed to have an Exotic spaceship and Sparrow, but I’m a pretty low Light Level compared to many other players due to lack of playing the game.

I know that they have a Zavala and an “Iron Banner” Titan in 3D STL model figure files or printable in ETSY. I haven’t bitten on those though.

is cool. Haven’t played the new DCL as much as i should. Kind of burned out with Destiny 2, but still manage to grind in a little here and there. GOtta find more time to complete the model kits on my workbench.

Yup, Destiny 2 can be a grind. I haven’t bought the DCLs myself. It’s a great way to relieve stress. :grinning:

What I didn’t like about the 3D “Iron Banner” STL Titan printable figure was that it carried a shotgun. I mainly use auto rifles and rarely use shotguns.

I think there is an auto rifle 3D Titan STL file somewhere online that isn’t “Iron Banner” but I forget where it was and it wasn’t cheap.

I think there are 3D STL Destiny 2 spaceships and Sparrows that one can buy and print, but they’re wargaming size, not model kit sizes, and their details are solid one piece.

The problem is that the miniature Bandai sets have shot up in price. I was lucky, I bought all mine as they came out, but I don’t mind having the extra DV TIE Advanced, I’ll just have it as part of my SW room, maybe pose it next to the diecast Code 3 DV TIE, (the largest of my DV TIEs) with the James Earl Jones signature. One thing I did find was that all the parts for the Death Star Trench are the numerous stands, etc. that sold with the fighters Bandai issued, so it is simple to extend as long as you don’t mind sacrificing the stands for A, X, and Y-wing, TIE Fighter, Interceptor and DV TIE. I’m thinking for those with enough space, (so not me then) you could even add height to the trench scene by having the Bandai 1/144 Falcon firing on the TIE trio, maybe using some clear styrene, etc.

It is amazing how people view series and films differently. I don’t mind Mando having the Naboo fighter, though to me it would make sense for someone who has worked as a bounty hunter to have a ship that could accommodate a captive.

there is a resin version of “Nell” as well as cowboy’s ship which i have in the stash.

@Harv. the film you are talking about is called “Space Raiders” and you can watch the whole film on YouTube.

when i was a kid they were called Outer Spacers and then they got rebranded, you could still taste the pickled onion flavoured ones an hour after you ate them lol

It would be good to have one of the Space Above and Beyond dropships in injection plastic, any reasonable scale would do.

An in-scale Hammerhead would also be good, :slightly_smiling_face:.

I really enjoyed the series, short lived as it was, reckon they could remake a new, grittier version, as they did with Battlestar Galactica, :slightly_smiling_face:.

All released by a company that actually knows how to mold a modern model:

  1. 1/35 Space:1999 Eagle based on a real length of approximately 107 feet
  2. 1/35 Lunar Excursion Module
  3. 1/72 Space 1999 Eagle based on a real length of approximately 107 feet
  4. 1/1000 scale NCC-1701 Enterprise (post refit; undamaged) with all necessary decals in the box
  5. 1/1000 scale NCC-1864 Reliant (undamaged) with all necessary decals in the box
  6. 1/350 Starbridge from Escape Velocity: Nova

All Eagles released to date are significantly under-scale with soft details. The interior sets would not fit inside. I want a Japanese model company with money to acquire the Space:1999 license. Unfortunately, Polar Lights pumped out so many mediocre, under-scale Eagles, I doubt the market currently exists for good ones. Also, I very probably cannot afford a 1/35 scale Eagle. :upside_down_face:

To my knowledge, no company produces a plastic Lunar Excursion Model molded to modern standards of crispness and detail. UHU02 released an excellent card model LEM, far better than any current plastic kit, and I should build it.

Polar Lights cannot produce a model to modern standards. The best they can do looks like a decent model from, like, 1980. Releasing models that require a separate purchase of decals that cost as much as the base model is super sleazy. I am not quick to scorn but Polar Lights has disappointed me too many times. My brother tells me I am overly critical on this matter.

Sorry for the negative waves, man.

My closet contains a fair number of space ship models from Japanese companies. They all look very nice and I hope to build some in the near future for various campaigns.

Polar Lights are doing some pretty shady stuff. Especially with the decals. One I noticed recently is the current boxing of the 1/1000 Enterprise refit. The first issue came with a full set of Aztec panel decals for the hull. The current issue has removed them and they want you to buy them separately. The 1/2500 Strange New Worlds Enterprise has the Aztecs, but not in the 1/1000. Guess what they sell separately as an expensive upgrade? For us in the UK, this is even more cost on already expensive kits. To add insult to injury Polar Lights decals are absolute dog s#*t in quality.

The 1/350 (and massively underscaled too, but that’s a whole other long and dull story only of interest to die hard Trekkies) USS Grissom is a real mixed bag in quality. Brilliant in some areas, but clear signs of cost cutting and rushing in others. For example, really nice panel lining on the sensor hull and tops of the nacelles, none on the primary hull or nacelle sides. Vents, grilles and airlocks that should have been moulded provided as decals. Good enough for 1/2500 but not at this bigger scale.
But the worst is this c#*k up on the airlock decals. Can you spot the mistake?

HAHAHA!

Oh crud burgers. If I need to replace the decals for all my Polar Lights science fiction stuff, that is going to get expensive.

I’m going to try to print my own to replace those. It’s tiny, but annoying that I know it’s there. That just speaks volumes of laziness. They just cut and pasted a graphic from the Enterprise sheet. I’ve had to replace decals for several of theirs already. PNT and JTGraphics are brilliant. JT uses Alps printing method so you have good solid colours. PNT are printed on clear decal sheets so need a white or light grey paint under them to work best. Not a problem for Federation ships.
Last week I picked up Starfighter Decals 1/1000 movie era Federation hull graphics and serials. Mostly red pin stripes, emblems, phasers and RCS thrusters. Enough to do one each of the Constitution refit, Miranda and Excelsior with plenty of lettering and numbers for custom ships.
Luckily I bought almost all of the original AMT releases back in the day and stashed them away. The decals have held up and are usually much better quality.
Over on the Starship Modeler website there is a page with downloadable files for custom printing panel and hull graphic decals for several Star Trek ships. If I can find the link in my favourites I’ll post it. Irrc they have sets for most of the original AMT ships and the big 1/350 Movie Enterprise.

Here’s an example of a JTGraphics sheet for the TOS Romulan Bird-of-Prey. The Polar Lights decals just shattered on me! The JT sheet was a joy to work with and apply.
