I read that Donald Sutherland passed - my all time favorite armor commander…
Very sad, have to dust off Kelly’s Hero’s and watch Oddball again.
Woof…woof…
So many good roles, the original Hawkeye Pierce
he had a long and steady career with some great roles.
The BattleScale Collectica Sow
I just learned of his passing about an hour ago. How sad. One of the first roles I remember him being in, when I was a kid. was in the Dirty Dozen. I thought his character was very funny when he pretended to be a general and inspected the troops. And of course who couldn’t love him when he played Oddball.
He was Hawkeye in the MASH movie too
I still remember his goofy perm in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” of all things.
Thats right, forgot that on Pinkley, loved when he inspected Breed’s troops.
Don’t forget Eye of the Needle. One of the few cases where the movie was nearly as good as the book.
“ Hier ist die Nadel “
yeah i saw Donald had died a few hours ago. my dad died in January of this year and we played the theme tune to Kelly’s Heroes at his funeral.
This for Donald and my dad:
Sorry to hear about your dad.
Kelly’s Heros, Dirty Dozen, The Eagle Has Landed, and JFK…all favorites. Will watch then again soon. RIP Donald.
I liked his role as the spy in The Eagle Has Landed. And his role as the CIA Spook in JFK.
I actually watched that not too long ago, another great movie.
I watched KH only a few weeks ago, so I’ll dig out my old MASH dvd later tonight. I must track down a copy of Don’t look now, but save that for another time!
Thanks, i appreciate it.
he had an operation back in September on his leg and was determined to get his fitness level back to his previous level.
the doctor gave him a Physiotherapy plan but ad usual my did over did it. he bought an exercise bike and would do a heavy work out on it in the garage. my guess is that finished him, he was found near it, having had a massive heart attack. two teams of paramedics arrived but it was to late.
so now technically I’m an orphan as mum died ten years ago. the freaky thing about my dad dying is that he died on the exact same day as his father did…so I’m really not looking forward to the 4th of January 2025.
Unfortunately we don’t know our expiration date. Best we can do is try to enjoy each day and have our affairs in order the best we can for when our ticket is called.
If we knew in advance we would leave empty wine cellars ane everything else cleaned out.
Inheritances parcelled out according to OUR wishes and d-mn the lawyers and greedy heirs.
If there are no heirs we could also rack up a huge debt and die not only penniless but also ahead of the game. Have a huge party the night before and die hungover and broke.
Condolences re your Dad, mine died 40 years to the day after his mother - Feb 15.
Just a 1 in 365 chance? I never studied statistics, which is why I never could get my head around the apparent certainty that if you got 28 (I think) random people together, two of them would share the same birthday. (Yes we’re a long way from Donald Sutherland, apologies)
