BREAKING: M-SHORAD Won’t Make Army’s Self-Imposed 2023 Deadline for Fielding
Could be anything from the Technical Manuals aren’t ready in time to the software to the integration of the various systems to the system’s effectiveness to delay in testing to safety issues to whatever.
I’m for TRX SHORAD as HMMWV “Avenger” just has a .50cal M3 with eight Stingers and TRX SHORAD has 30mm (and maybe 7.62mm COAX) and is unmanned. But the US Army has to commit to the unmanned TRX platform first. TRX SHORAD can help US Army Airborne, Light Forces, and Arctic Forces and the USMC can use some too. The USMC has SHORAD on their RIwP JLTV turrets and Stingers in their MRZRs so USMC is fine. US Army needs to replace their aging HMMWV “Avengers.”
If modified more, the TRX SHORAD platform might host AIM-9Xs, JAGM ATGMs, and even SPIKE NLOS-ER launch rails for even more missile range than Stingers.
