I think that that an innovative company can make good money when they make the boxes from resin and providing stencil s or decals. I think I would buy a dozen sets.
For accuracy the MRE boxes a wrapped with two white plastic bands each 10mm wide.
Update upper hull. The front lights are still missing. I want to swap the tow bar on the front of the vehicle for a long one on the left.

Good job.
Don’t know what material you used but I cut thin strips of masking tape.
I used the thinnest plasti card I had then used a chisel blade and cut the edges as thin as possible. However, I like the tape idea, I may go and get some white electricians tape and try that method
Electrical tape is too flexible. Use white painters tape John. Not too sticky and thick enough to hold shape and go around the boxes you make. Stick a length on a smooth piece of acetate and cut it into strips. Remove every second strip and paint the others white. When dry, lift them off and use on the boxes.
It is also good for straps, belts, etc, painted whatever colour you need. A lot easier to fold around a PE buckle than etch is.
Even though tapes are white, they yellow with age, so I paint them.
Thought I would try a bit of experimenting with the Comds and Dvrs vision blocks.
I used another silvered side from a choc bar (Yorkie was the preferred option this time ) and then cut that into thin strips and then into the actual block lengths. Roughly 2.5mm by 6mm.
Then superglued those to the vision blocks.
The ref pics I’ve seen give them a purplish tint, so I mixed some tamiya clear blue and clear red, x23 & x27 about 50/50 until I got to the sort of hue I was after. Then began painting each strip.
One done next to the silver strip.
There is a very small amount of touch up needed with the green where sausage fingers took over but I am quite pleased with how they turned out.
You get a bit of dull shine coming through which gives them a bit of depth.
I then painted half the bit of wrapper so I have some ready to go next time …
Looks sweet John! Great idea and nice effect!
Thanks Matt, nothing ventured, nothing gained and I think I will do the same with the M1 vision blocks except put the silver strip behind the clear plastic that comes with that kit
Looks great, John! I was cruising through a party supply store with the wife a while back and came across this bag of party favors that have these long Mylar strips. There’s enough for thousands of models and only cost me a couple bucks.
Now that I have reasonably reliable power again, maybe I can get some more work done on my Stryker.
It’s amazing sometimes seeing the things people find that have a secondary modelling use… These forums are so good for passing on tips…
Hope you get back on the Stryker soon…
I was walking through the dollar store after picking up a gift bag and I happened upon a bag of mylar confetti. As soon as I saw the red and green my brain said VISION BLOCKS and I grabbed a bag, containing about 10 years worth for a dollar. I tried it for the first time on my new M1A2 and here’s how they look:
And the gunner’s sight:
They look great Matt. Once our lockdown eases I will try a few party shops to see if I can find something over here
Quick Q ref weapon load out for the RWS, I am going to put the Mk19 grenade launcher on as I have 40mm ammo boxes in the Tamiya stowage set I got today. Question. Would they have also carried a .50 inside or does each wagon only have one weapon allocation per RWS ? Reason I’m asking is I don’t want to put .50 ammo boxes on as stowage if they wouldn’t of had one in the vehicle
t depends you build a vehicle in training or in action (Afghanistan/Iraq). Vehicle here in training have no ammo boxes at all. On the other hand steel ammo boxes can be used for all kinds of stowage. And no, there are no two weapons for RWS in the truck. I guess you haven´t done your homework?
Got a few more bits on the ESV, blade is now fitted.
And the 2 marker post dispensers as well.
Blade went on fine although I did loose 30minutes looking for the miniscule blade mount securing pin that went ballistic into the carpet monster, god knows how I found it.
Only issue is the blade is to heavy to stay up… I’m thinking of trying a jury rig ratchet strap going through the 2 lifting eyes on the top of blade and around the rear of the winch guide in the middle ??
May be wrong but I think chains might be a better option than the straps. I’m sure others will offer their suggestions as well.
Cheers DV, I had considered that but I am pretty sure I don’t have any chain laying about, I will double check though.
