Is “Steel Chariots” the book’s full name? When I do a search the only book that comes up is “Steel Chariots in the Desert” which is the memoir of the driver of T.E. Lawrence’s armoured car during WWI. Thanks / Ian
Oops, an error on my side… That comes when you try to do things by head…
The book is called Brazen Chariots by Robert Crisp:
Many thanks! I’m buying it today! / Ian
My pleasure… It is a very interesting book to read…
Gentlemen we´re approaching the finish line
I took the advice from Erwin Leetink for serious and added some more soft stowage on top of the rear engine compartment. Looks indeed more better to me
For the groundwork I found a ready-to-use desert foam mat from www.diodump.com. The shop owner Roy is a very friendly guy and he customized a desert mat exactly in the dimensions I needed. Quality and realism is stunning to me, well worth to spend some Euros there
Now finally its just left to attach the abandoned Stuart and all the italians onto the desert floor
Before the desert sun is getting too hot I completed the scene and glued on the immobilized and abandoned Stuart and gathered the italian assault pioneers around it which are preparing for an imminent counter offensive. All in all I am very pleased with the outcome. I was very satisfied with the quality of all ingredients of this build; together with your constructive comments it was a joy throughout for me.
Enough talking; Andiamo! Here are the final pictures for you:
Thanks for watching and following and Ciao
Great book. Amazing combat narratives. Funny stories such as the general bathing with avgas,
Marvelous work. Top notch. Three of my favorite subjects: M-3 Stuarts; caunter scheme; 10ª Armata. Thank you for posting.
And how he got the crabs
excellente!!!
Outstanding work here. That Stuart is perfect, great weathering. The figures are brilliantly painted. There’s a great sense of movement around the abandoned tank. Great little dio.
Certainly a worthy addition…
The overall result is great!!!
I notice that the interior is black in the photos. I know you did an interior. Is this an effect of lighting or did you paint the interior black. Seems like a silly question but painting an interior a dark gray or black and shooting a light gray or white from the hatch openings into the interior would be a cool effect.
Greg, my plan was to open all hatches and flaps to let as much light shine inside in order to maybe see some more details of the interior. If you are near the tank and the lighting is right you can see some details inside. I painted it in full color.
Stay away from other people’s blankets, IIRC.
Thanks for telling us about DioDump.
I thought he got it from the jammies?
That’s right! I knew it had something to do with sleepwear. I don’t remember the story behind the jammies though.
Passed the fish restaurant this weekend. Their motto is, “The leaves are falling and the crabs are crawling.”. Made me think of the book.
He found a suitcase with silken jammies on a abandoned Crusader and could not resist a good nights rest in them, before shipping the suitcase to its original owner. As a return he got the crabs, which stayed with him until after he was evacuated from Africa…
Interesting slogan!
Karma…
