T-34/85 campaign

Really like the weathered look on this one. Worn but not abused. :+1: :+1:

Beautiful work on this one Wade. I like the look of it - faded and worn, but not beaten to death. Your drybrushing really pops the turret texture.

That is fine, you don’t have to do a one for one posting in both threads but a few pics would be nice and at least one completed pic.

Awesome. Thanks.

Gentlemen,

Having seen so many nice models and great builds, I got my mojo and would lik to enter with my Miniart T-34/85 kit which is built in the memory of my father who drove such tanks in the Hungarian People’s Army during his time spent in the Military college. My mother brought me his driving licens (will scan and upload later) and when I got it, I had an idea to build a T-34 tank and place it on a photocopy of that license as a base. Well, this campaign is a great opportunity to start this project.

A little bit of progress on Day One, with some challenge on the hull sides - I was pretty difficult to make the parallel but finally they are OK. I am participating in the regular Miniart campaign (with a T-55 kit) so I do not expect a light-year fast build but definitely want to finish before the campaign finish date. Progress photos will be uploaded regularly.

Wish you all great time and congrats for all for the nice kits!

ok, so I guess I overestimated our shipping service here, or something, because it still isn’t here, a week after I originally ordered it. it’s all kind of funny, thought I’d be posting about progress now! :joy:
Cheers!

That’s a great idea. Look forward to seeing the project progress.

Great to see you here!
Build on!

a great build!
funny thing is, i just got mine yesterday. I ordered it on facebook, and it was pretty expensive…
because it came with a whole ton of resin pieces like extra shells, PE, and what do you know, Friulmodellisimo T-34/85 tracks! and I laughed to myself because it was the same good looking tracks that you used.
Cheers!

@logandavis74 Logan, thank you. That sounds like a very nice kit with all the extras! Sure beats having to order it all bit by bit! Sounds like an excellent build in the making. I look forward to seeing the process

it was very worth it!
he sold it to me for 59$
Friulmodellisimo T/34 tracks- 32.79$
PE- 10$?
the model itself- 26.40$
that’s a total of 69.19$ if i had bought it bit by bit.
and that doesn’t include the resin!
I’ve started work on the turret, (I also got a dragon barrel that luckily fit with the tamiya turret)
and the tracks. it’s definitely some work piecing those tracks together, but, well, from how your tank turned out, it’s definitely worth it!
I’ll be posting some pictures soon.
Cheers!

@Armor_Buff
I have a question-
I believe that we are using (well, you’ve used them now)
the same tracks, and I was wondering…
how many links do I use for each side?
it includes how many it comes with, but not how many to use on each side, so what I’ve decided to do (of course, I haven’t even completed one side) is to split that number in half, and use that amount, AKA 85 tracks per side.
just wanted to know.
Cheers!

I don’t like my Zvezda T34/85 kit… There, I said it.
I just do not get the ā€œfeelā€ for it, don’t get into ā€œthe zoneā€ with it.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice kit. And the fit is generally good. I just… no. I struggle to get it done, don’t pay it the attention that is needed, which only makes things worse. I really messed up with the fuel tanks, which meant I had to chop up fully cured subassemblies. Which doesn’t make for pretty finishes, broken off pegs and slightly deformed tanks due to the force exerted.
Zvezda also has these ridiculously small parts. Without adding spares. So when of them zings through the air after leavig the tweezers at considerable speed… gone. Like the lifting hooks on the turret. Found one again, but another is lost.
And then there are the tracks. I used the kittracks on my old (also Zvezda) T-34/76 and they just did not fit. Had to cheat by adding one extra trackpad and cut off its joints.
For this kit I am using spare Dragon single link tracks and these just fit, even though they are bigger then the original kit version!

Dimnesion comparisson between the old T34/76 and the new T34/85. I have the suspiscion that the old one is too big.

Actually, I never count links. I build the track to approximately 3/4 of the length and test fit. Then add links until the track fits and it shows the amount of sag I like. I’ve seen modelers get hung up on link count and not realize sometimes the links aren’t perfectly to scale.

However, to answer your question.

There are typically a large number of extra links with a Friulmodellismo T-34-85 set.

Don’t split them in half and assemble all of them or you’ll be taking some unneeded links out.

Typically about 14 to 14.25 linear inches of track. That’s roughly 36 of the double link pairs. 36 with guide tooth & 36 flats for a total of 72 links.

Depending flex, desired track sag & idler position, I would estimate 35 to 37 of the double links.

Notice due to wire flex & deburring the track pin holes two pairs of tracks may not line up link to link perfectly. Here’s an example.

Notice how they quickly start of off set? That’s why I mention it could vary a little on link count in some cases.
