It definitely is an interesting version and your model is really nice. I like the sand idler giving a touch of color.

Thanks Olivier. I still have some more weathering to do. I’ll post pics when I get home; these pics show the wash application. I did an extensive dusting of the whole vehicle but mostly on the lower hull and running gear. I actually made a mistake on the idler wheel by spraying too much MiG dust product on it, I’ll tone it down some later. I sprayed most of the lower hull and running gear then added different tones with pigments by paint brush. I was going for a dusty look being this vehicle served in Algeria.
I still have a few things to do; mount the .50 cal, paint the two crew figures, and I was gonna make a tarp or two to throw in the storage bin on the rear of the hull along with the shovel and maybe a small back pack or something. I also have to touch up the weathering in some places.
The last picture of the right side of the vehicle shows a problem I had with the track not fitting completely over the idler wheel. I have no idea how that happened because I took extra care to make a good fit. Not sure what I can do about it because no matter how I move it the track comes away from the idler. Oh well
Excellent build and paint Richard. Really great weathering. You did a very nice job on this one.
Thanks Matt it was a fun and easy build
Very nice kit indeed.
Mine isn’t quite finished, still the dust weathering toi be done and a display stand…
Cheers
You did an excellent job on it! I like the extra gear you added as well.
One question: I noticed there’s a pick ax added to the front upper hull just above the sledgehammer. I did not see it in the instructions on mine. I also don’t see it on my period photos taken in Algeria, although I only have a few- but it’s a nice addition!
Thanks for your feedback.
I choose to add the pick-axe and its’ position without any pictures or references….
All good, I wouldn’t doubt if there’s a picture somewhere of that. Troops often do that in the field so no worries. Again great job !
Nice build! Love the weathering, the periscopes also look great! How’d you do ‘em?
Also quick question, since I’m considering getting an AMX-13 myself some day, are the wheels workable on the Takom kit? The instructions are unclear on that
For the periscopes I used white primer then clear green (transparent) from Tamiya.
For the tracks, as afton as possible, I replaced them by Friul metal tracks. It’a worth the price!
Wheels are not workable.
Thanks for the kind words Swag!
For the periscopes I simply painted the black and added a gloss coat of Humbrol gloss to them. I still have to do some touch ups and add a little more dust here and there. The crew figures have been added as well as some extra gear in the rear bin, I’ll post pics later when I get home from work.
The road wheels and tracks are not workable. Actually the wheels I used are an aftermarket set from Accurate Armour. The kit comes with the later type welded road wheels while the real thing had the early bolted type so I swapped them out.
Oh nice! So just black with a gloss varnish coat? I’ll give it a try next time!
And darn… I really like my wheels workable… Maybe I’ll have to go with Tamiya…
The pickax of the AMX 13 was stowed on the left side of the turret. With the M24 Chaffee I think the crew had to be inventive as there were no other designed positions on the hull. My best guess is that the pickax metal part was removed from the handle and both were stowed in the rear hull bin/basket with the axe.

Great build and finishes.
Brilliant job. It reminds me of the Verlinden style.

I love the tools and all the fabric textures!
