I’m also hope that Takcom comes out with both a straight M48 with the exposed .50 cal machine gun, along with a straight M60 MBT.
I’ll definitely be looking at the M48A5 since I was on one of them for a couple of months before they were replaced in 1984. I was with 2ID, “1st Tank.”
The main retailer in Europe has these kits as coming in mid December… Available for pre orders, the track sets also. I will wait and see, I do need some track sets though.
Squared off front lights, re-inforcing ribs at the rear engine grilles, different front fenders, cupola with the raised ring for better viewing. The IDF got those after YKW
I like how they included/recycled many parts from their M60A1 and Taiwanese Brave Tiger offering.
I have mine pre-ordered from Hobbyeasy - was supposed to be in stock this week but got delayed until next week. So looking forward to seeing it.
Like others, I am also hoping for Takom to continue in the series: straight M48, M60, M48A2s, and Magaches. That also means you all need to buy a lot of these to make their business case!
I also like their road wheels. The torus (donut) shaped bulge is nice; the bolt details are sharp; and well proportioned parts. The best I’ve seen in styrene.
Looks quite close to the real thing. However, not too thrilled about the multi-piece assembly, and I’ll most likely replace them with my 3D prints anyway.
At the time, they were not old dogs. The M48A5 had the same basic optics, gun, etc. as an M60A1 RISE/Passive. They were a stopgap to bring them up to the same level as tanks being used in Europe during the late '70s - early '80s, until they could be issued M60A3 TTS tanks. Also, against their potential adversaries at the time, N. Korean T55s, they were more than adequate.
