drabslab,
I used Zero paints a few years ago, and thought that they were the dead equal to Gravity of Spain (not the Florida Gravity which is terrible in every way you can image). Back then there was two distributors for the paint, one west of the Mississippi, and one East of it. They would pool their orders to reach the min order on everything. But the West coast guy dropped the Zero brand, and the East coast distributor, a online hobby shop has more out of stocks then in stocks, and you can literally wait for a year or more for basic colors like mat black. So I switched to Gravity of Spain and never looked back until i just recently started using ScaleFinishes, a USA based paint company.
Sorry for my late answer. Joel. Just came across your finished build and I must say she’s a beauty. I like that colour scheme, it has something unusual. You’ve done a great job! Every build you’ve done lately is a little gem of its own.
Richard & Torsten,
Thanks so much guys for your thumbs up. Coming from two of the best aircraft model builders I know from my Aeroscale days, you gotta just know how much it means to me.
Like you, I do lurk on (in my case on Aeroscale) and try to follow your builds as often as possible.
drabslab,
Honestly, I had no idea that racing bike tires do this as they wear. I was just taken by the fact that I’d never seen this before when I sanded a kit tire, didn’t much care for the look, and then while watching a documentary on some of the Iconic Porsche endurance race cars, saw it on a 962C tire no less.
Richard for sure, yes, but me …? In sport I would see my skills as midfield in the 2. division. You’re a charmer, my friend! Thanks for the flowers anyway!
Torsten,
Don’t ever sell yourself or your modeling skills short. You build museum standard and top quality models every time without exception, give us some historical background on the aircraft or tank and the pilot. The total package if you ask me.
Rowan,
The paints are only available straight from ScaleFinishes. Email him and ask about shipping. I think you’ll be very happy with his answers. But there’s always Gravity of Spain and Spot Models. They ship DHL and it’s expensive to say the least.
Looks fantastic Joel! The masking work is great and really paid off. What’s up with the rear tires? Are they supposed to look like that or is it a camera thing? Definitely could spend a goodly amount of time looking this one over. And stealing your secrets muhahahah… eh, em… Thank you.
Thanks so much my friend for your most kind words. Coming from you it really means quite a lot.
The tires were a major issue as you can see that they literally started to flake. I’m pretty sure that in real life they’re bias ply which means that if these were the real deal, the top ply started to come apart. I posted a picture of the same issue that I had in my reference files for Porsche, and it actually had the same tire issues. Talk about pure dumb luck.
