Tamiya 1/35 T-55 Enigma

Is anyone excited about the re release of the t-55 enigma. Since I have the tamiya M60 with era this might be the perfect adversary.

It’s a nice kit but needs some work. The tires have grooves along the sidewalls but they should be raised ribs. Fine stretched sprue is an easy fix but somewhat labor intensive. Also no plumbing for the external fuel tanks. The armor blocks also need work as they seem to be rather roughly cut. I posted mine here some time ago but can’t seem to find it.

Not really. I would much rather build one of the extremely better detailed MiniArt T55 Enigmas.

I get that for people with more money and experience but id rather save the money for tamiya and the details don’t really bother me. Also the inaccuracies dont really bother me either. I dont have any connection to it either that’s why it doesn’t really bother me.

Well you asked, so don’t be surprised when you get dissenting views. By the way, I feel the same way about the Tamiya M60A1 ERA. The Takom version is leaps and bounds better. I am generally not a fan of Tamiya as they are usually at the bottom of my list if there is a better kit out there, which there usually is. To each their own though.

Not just that - I’ve got so many engines from things I cold start a shop. There are only so many ways to display them.

Hey, it’s your build so go with whatever you are comfortable with and what you will enjoy and be happy with. I just mentioned those tweeks in case you were unaware/ interested. The MiniArt kits are much more detailed but they are also much more complex and fiddly. It’s a hobby have fun and do it your way.

Nice to hear that it’s coming back. I missed getting one the first time around. Maybe this time.

I built the kit some years ago and don’t have any complaints.

I sm disappointed that tamiya are just doing repops and the ‘new tooling’ of the Chaffee looks suspiciously like the old italeri kit to me.

It’s not the Italeri kit.
