Been working on this off and on for a while now. Actually more off as I was hoping to come by the engine deck screens. Gave up looking and decided to go OOB. Using the kit tracks but I have a question about them. The outer surface has rubber track blocks. The inner surface I’m not so sure. There is no clearly defined blocks but the surface is not exactly flat/smooth. Appreciate any help.
There are small rubber inserts that show on the inside of the track links.
Clean track:
You can have the inner surface as you prefer if you go for a dusty look

Thanks. More brush work.
In progress shots. Running gear and tracks painted and weathered. Mostly hidden by the sand skirts. Turret mostly complete. Hull needs details and fittings added. Super build. Biggest drawback is open sponsons that need to be covered.
Another question. The skirt, what’s it made of?Is it rubber? Lots of wrinkles makes me think it may be some kind of cloth, a heavy canvas perhaps? Thanks.
In this book, the autor call this dust curtains to avoid dust clouds.
No specifications for the material used to build them
It’s like a heavy rubber coated nylon, easiest thing I can compare it too is the material dry bags are made out of but of a heavier guage. CVR(T) engine and transmission deck covers are made of the same stuff.
Not a great photo but here’s my initial attempt at Desert DPM. If I can get them passable I’ll add the figures that come with the kit.
That’s a big manly tank DV, nice job, the figure looks pretty manly too! ![]()

That’s a very good approximation of Desert DPM in my view, having worn it far too often the colours look spot on.
Thanks. Not really a figure guy but I thought l’d give it a go. Not real happy with the face, but glad to know I got reasonably close on the uniform.
Nice figure. What did you use for the brown color ?
The brown color of the camouflage scheme is like brush strokes. Not easy to reproduce
I agree, not easy to pull off. The pattern and colours are done very well. Compare them to this picture taken in 2003 in the green zone.
Thanks. Tamiya flat earth XF53.
Great job on tank and figure, I love this kit. Just be aware the gunner is an awkward fit in his hatch with the MG in place, helps to dry fit before fixing arm position.
What colours did you use for the main finish and the side skirts?
Main finish is custom mixed Tamiya. Started with XF88 Dark Yellow #2 then added XF3 Yellow. No real formula, just eyeballed it till I thought it looked right. AB over a dark brown preshade, then post shaded with a lighter base color. The skirt is Tamiya XF57 Buff, also over a dark browns preshade.
Already working on that awkward fit but thanks.
