One of my latest builds. Straight from the box with standard rubber tracks and Humbrol paints. The figures come with the kit, which is painted to represent “121” a vehicle from SSPz Regt 9 in the Ardennes. Interestingly, the kit painting instructions are for a Heer unit, but the crew are definitely SS, even down to the sleeve eagle moulded on and the moulded cuff title of the TC, which suited me down to the ground. The tracks and roadwheels have an overspray of Dark Earth, but this may need a bit more mud, given where its meant to be. You may be able to spot a plaster base with a road on, which I may use to mount the Panther.
Nice. That tamiya Panther G is a great little kit … built a fair few. Great job with yours and the crew look really well done. Nice paint detailing on them.
Very nice job! Great camo painting and the figures look great.
Sweet looking G!
Nicely done.
Very well done figures!
Thanks for the kind comments guys!
Outstanding looking G! The camo is fantastic. Your figures are excellent. Really nice finishing and weathering. That base will look awesome with it when painted.
Thanks! Here’s an additional photo which shows the running gear better. The tracks were sprayed black, then dry-brushed with rust, then a quick overspray with Dark Earth followed by highlighting with silver/black mix. I didn’t want to go overboard with the weathering, because “Hohenstaufen” only got these tanks in November 1944 literally weeks before “Wacht am Rhein”.
The track sag is very well executed and realistic. This even more impressive with the kit rubber band tracks.
Outstanding!
A+++
Really like this figure and you’ve done a great job on the painting of the crew. Not sure what Tamiya are thinking about with the rear attachment (?) of the tow cable. Panzer Tracts 5-3 shows clamps on the back edge of the rear deck, similar to this Voyager PE set (PE35755).
Some kits have the cable doing a 90º bend at the rear corner and attaching to the clamp on the opposite side, but I haven’t seen a photo of that arrangement, however PT 5-3 has the tow cable length given as 8.2 metres which correlates to that set-up.
Yeah…Tamiya don’t give you anything for the rear end of the tow cable, I always thought it looked wrong, to the extent that on one build I used wire to tie it to the rear hook, not accurate but could have been a field bodge to replace lost parts. My understanding is that the cable is pretty stiff, so may lay along the deck behind the spare tracks under its own weight?
