So in the words of a Cambodian friend of mine, “Same same, but different.”
He has a way with words.
Nothing done over Easter, family had priority. Was in Hamburg, 600 kilometers away from my bench …
So, another re-start this week and this is how far the A400 is. Ready for some airbrush action …
… have decided to open the driver’s door. Wish me luck that I don’t have much spray fog inside …
… and some more parts cleaned and ready for painting …
Wheels for the E400 are finished now. The tyres are brush painted, the rims are painted with Revell 314 Beige …
Hope to show more soon.

Another small update for the A400 fresh from the paint booth. Painted the chassis with Revell 5 White, which comes close to RAL 9001 Cream White. DRK vehicles were and still some are painted in RAL 1015 Light Ivory. I don’t have this colour, so I decided to go with RAL 9001, which has a yellowish touch, which is not really seen in these photos …
… plus some parts painted with Revell 36 Carmine Red (RAL 3002). I hope this comes close to the real deal. One fender broke from the sprue and wanted a special treatment and got it …
So, in the next time there should be again more building and less painting on both kits.
Torsten
Looking good Torsten.
Thanks Ryan!
Today a bigger update of my work at the E400 in the last few days. As I said, I would like to see a bit more building and less painting on these beasts …
Okay, here we go. Engine and front section is assembled. I’ve lost part B47 which has the connecting pin to the cabin (eaten by the big evil carpet monster), so I made something new from Evergreen (see arrow). Not much of this will be seen later …
… and attached to the cabin …
… further work is also done to the cargo bed. The small PE parts are quite fragile …
… rear wheels are also attached now. I noticed that the shaft is also a bit short to reach the cabin, so Evergreen helped me out again. Of course that was too much so I had to sand off a bit again …
… and both parts glued together now …
… a first test fitting of the hood. It starts to look really like a “Dreikantfeile” now …
Still a way to go but I can see a result now. Next assembly here are the rear view mirrors and head lamps.
I also did some work on the A400 Lieferwagen. The hood got the grille and here you can see the difference in both hoods. Later I’ll paint the Tempo sign in Silver …
… wheels are also ready for assembly now …
Same procedure now on the A400 like on the E400. I’ll see how far I get in the next days. But both won’t be finished for my next model show in 2 weeks.
Have a great weekend, guys!

Both are looking great. That stinks about the drive shaft, at least it was an easy fix.
Nice work Torsten. I am tempted to get one of these for myself after seeing this.
I have a few and they look very nice. I want to build one after watching Torsten’s builds.
Those are both looking good at this stage. You’ve really brought out the details nicely with that front section. Great paint choices for the wheel hubs too!
Really nice work Torsten!
Just wondering: Is the license plate bracket upside-down?

Great progress here Torsten, really nice work!
Cheers, D
Thanks for all your feedback guys! Much appreciated!
Peter, yes, they are really nice kits and not difficult to build, though the engine has too many fiddly parts for my taste. Though these kits are not cheap. I’ve paid nearly 100 Euros for both … But if I can support the Ukraine this way …
Mike! Ooops! You’re right, it is upside down … I will solve this problem somehow. And I noticed that I have forgotten the left rear light also. Where was I with my thoughts …
They are about 35 Euro each here in Australia from BNA Model. At your prices, I guess I won’t be buying much model related stuff in Germany when I get there in September!
Glad I could help. And BTW, askew works for me — gives it that slightly used by a little old lady appearance.

Granny drives her 3 wheeler to market:
Peter, I have a limit how much money I’m willing to pay for a kit and that is around 50 Euros. So let’s say if the kit costs 55 Euros, that’s still okay for me, if it’s 60 Euros or more I pass it. I have so many kits in my stash I don’t need to buy everything. In January I bought the new 1/48 Bristol Beaufort from ICM for less than 50 Euros and that kit has a lot more parts than this one. There’s only one exception to this rule and that are the MAN Kat I trucks from Hobbyboss, because I drove one during my army time for 3 years. Meanwhile I have most of them …
That’s fine when these Tempos cost only 35 Euros in AUS, so go for it!
Where in Germany you’re going to? Would we have a chance to meet?
Well, suddenly everything went quick with the builds. I could spent a good amount of time at the bench this weekend and this is the result so far. Engine and front section of the A400 are together now and here you can see Part B47, which went MIA on the E400 …
… and a few hours later the A400 was nearly finished. I like that the Winker (direction indicator) are also painted in red, as are the funny looking head lamps and the mirror …
The fitting of the hood is so good that I have decided not to glue it to the cabin, so that the tiny engine will still be visible …
Tempo E400 is at the same stage now but these tiny mirrors scare me. They are predestinated to break … Here the hood is glued to the cabin.
Still some minor touch ups to do (just saw that I have to go over the frame of the windshield of the A400 again …) but the major work is done now. So our model show on the 6./7. May is possible for these monsters
Have a great week, folks!

They are looking sweet for sure. The different bodies and grills really make them appear like completely different vehicles.
I am still in the planning stage for my trip. Oktoberfest in Munich is a bucket list item. I’m not a big drinker, but it is something I have always wanted to do. Everything I want to see is so spread out I will be covering some miles. The Black Forest railway, The panzer Museum at Munster (not Münster - I know about that one), U995 at Laboe, Peenemünde, etc. I am hoping the Museum of German Defence technology in Koblenz is open by then too.
Lots of other places to go to of course.
I would love to catch up at some stage if we can. I am going solo, so I can arrange my plans to suit. PM me the area you live in!
Last time I was in Germany I cycled the Rhine route with my wife dragging me along. Cycled from Amsterdam to Zurich. Knees can’t cope now, so it will be trains and buses mostly.
My Tempos are on their final rounds. All paint corrections are done. Today I sprayed Bodenglänzer floor polish for the few decals all over …
I think I can start with the decals tomorrow. Only 6 for the E400 and 5 for the A400. Nothing compared to my aircraft builds. And no stencils …
Noice! I do wish Miniart included decals for the artwork they had in the background on the A400 instruction schemes. Not real but cool anyway.
