Some troops for the Army of Z.
This is not the “Z” army, this is the Russian army. Let’s name things correctly.
It’s a play on words, Z as in Zvezda model kit.
Nice builds! Where did you get the sitting Russians for the back of the truck? Thanks.
Thank you. The figures are from Live-Resin, and can be purchased from BNAWorld.
I need to crew a few more trucks, so I’ll try to get closer to the actual poses. Unfortunately there’s no kit yet of the Ural they’re sitting in. There are two plastic sets I know of that include at least one figure with the Altyn or Maska style helmet, similar to the one Opie is modeling for us:
This set has two, one with a cloth cover, but they aren’t all that good. Perhaps inside a darkened truck bed they’d be okay. The set is also useful as it has one head wearing a watch cap, which I’ll use for a Ukrainian soldier. I also needed a left hand pointing, but the actual kit hand is almost open, not pointing at all.
The other set, which I recently ordered from Trumpeter, is this one, also with two of the helmets:
I found this old set in my stash - the pointing hand is not the best, so if anyone has a suitable one, perhaps we can deal…
I’m also looking for a set of goggles like these, also from Live-Resin:
I just got a pile of old figure sets I am sure one has a left pointer, I will take a look and let you know.
@ 18bravo. Check your Messages.
Seems like help is on the way!
Next up: The “F” Putin 2S1.
I’ll use the Trumpeter kit.
Since the commander’s hatch is open I’ll use the gun pictured on top of the box. Maybe a few other odds and ends.
Did you find much reference material on the 2S1 ?
Leaving the hatches open on my BMD too. Still collecting interior photos. Cant find alot even doing Google search in Russian. Gonna have to take a page from the OG Shep and do some “creative gizmology” to fill it in.
Little crowded in those hatches…
You probably know these already…
H.P.
I’ve photographed a few during my travels. Really helped with the Skif version back in the day as several prominent welds were missing among other things. I found a video showing the breech and autoloader. That’s probably as far as I’ll take it. I may place a tiny placard on the floor that says “Why in the hell are you unrealistically shining a light down through the center of the hatch? The sun never does that in Ukraine.” On second though, that’s a little long. Maybe I’ll just put a tiny mirror down there.
@ Recon22: Those look good, and more to scale. I’ll have to look into them.
Frenchy,
Thats a great site, I was not aware.
Do you know how to search it for the BMD section, if it has one?
Thanks,
TJ
Which BMD are you looking for ? BMD-3 ?
H.P.
Maybe this will help ? Tankograd: BMD-2
and scalenews.de - This website is for sale! - scalenews Resources and Information.
both have a lot of good info to dig through.
Here is the Tankograd entry on the 2S1
I don’t think that there is a more thorough reference.
Thanks guys.
Its the BMD-1P.
I’m building the old 1990s-2000 Skif one. I can build no model, unless it is a painfully old kit.
LOL
I’ll check those link outs.
I’ve built that Skif BMD… have fun…
The panda kit is probably no better.
Thanks for the info! I was able to snag a couple of figures from BNA, but most everything is (unsurprisingly) sold out. If anyone wants these Live-Resin Russian figures, they’d better hit it and quit it now.
By the way, there is a pointing left hand in one of the Hornet hand sets - this one:
Otherwise, maybe you can raid a German WWII figure set for one - everybody keeps complaining about the pointing Germans in those sets, after all.
