The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center

Here are some pictures of my visit to The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. It is located next to, but not on the base so you do not need a base pass…Ft. Moore (Ft. Benning) or Columbus GA.

This is probably the best museum I have ever been at…it has been voted “the best free museum in the US” 4 years in a row.

It covers the US infantry from Colonial times to the War on Terror.

Words cannot begin to describe it…they have an entire area that has a picture( if available) and the name and date of action, of every MoH recipient since the Civil War ( when it started being won). Amazing that there has been only 3465 presented…with 618 of those awarded posthumously.

Outside in the back section you have the formerly “Traveling” Vietnam War Memorial…and memorial to every infantry and Airborne division, and the 173rd Airborne brigade, and various others which lists the names of every K.I.A from that unit on them, and the units Battle Honors and Campaigns…it very much saddened my heart when I saw several young men weeping at the monuments.

Last American bayonet charge - by then Capt. Lewis Millet. February 7th, 1951, 2-27th Infantry Regiment (Wolfhounds).

This earned Capt. Millet the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This monument is the honoring the 25th Infantry Division ( I think) from WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the War on Terror…it shows a member of each generation weeping with the modern soldiers honoring one of their fallen comrades…
