Just a heads-up that users are currently unable to upload images. The site is throwing a No space left on device @ rb_sysopen error pointing to the /var/www/discourse/public/uploads/ directory.
Text posts are still going through, but it looks like the server’s hard drive or upload partition has completely run out of storage space. Someone with server root access will likely need to clear out some disk space, logs, or old backups.
Okay, maybe just upgrade the disk space.This has been noted and replied on by Jim in another topic:

They take up a huge area which is my biggest peeve. The other problems that people claim they have, I haven’t looked into. They are a hot topic here.
Why does it matter? I only ask because I posted mine first, and didn’t send that same message to the second poster. Because it doesn’t matter.
The sooner Jim gets the message, the better for the community, right?
Now - reposting entire news stories with photos every time it has to do with say - helicopters - That does eat up precious disk space, as we’re seeing. Simple text posts - a drop in the bucket.
I just wanted to point out that it has the attention of Jim. The question why wasn’t mine.

They’re a hot topic in my own household. Distributed data center networks ae probably a better way to go.
One might be built about 15 miles from my home in prime farm land.
Given the power and water-consumption issues, you’d think the obvious solution would be data centres built into the spillways of dams? Passing flow turns turbines for power, while also providing coolant…

True, but some dams are less prone to drying up than others. There was one in the news a few yeas back, being built as a sealed pod dropped into a bay somewhere. Didn’t solve the power issue, but went a long way towards cooling! As long as it’s in a suitably deep bit of water a drought like we had this summer shouldn’t matter…
Problem is access to carry out maintenance or change equipment out, seal it all from water ingress, back up power. Secure data centres require two or more independent sources of raw 11Kv electricity which is transformed down to 400v ac on site then through UPS’s and batteries with back up generators in case of one or both main power supplies being interrupted. The site I work on has 40 back up diesel generators, two 33Kv-11KV transformers, 26 x 11Kv-400v transformers and 64 three phase 1500Kw UPS’s plus a couple of thousand batteries, each generator has seven days worth of fuel at full load. And that’s not even a big site nor is it an AI site, yet!
Oh electric bill for one supply was £5mil for a quarter!
