Torpedo Away!

I would be interested in participating in this campaign. If approved, I will be building one of these. Probably the “Marder”.

Would a manned torpedo be allowed? Since it isn’t a vehicle carrying a torpedo I thought I would ask.

Thank you,

Randy :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like a plan for first catch of 2026 … Now I need to find some fish, so the subject is yet TBD …

Groan! You must be a dad too.

O.K., so that will be a Douglas TBD Devastator then… What scale are you thinking?

Ok was looking at either a MTB or early TBD that’s Torpedo Boat Destroyer not the aircraft but then a rattle of the old grey matter reminded me of the IJN Torpedo cruiser Kitakami - 5 sets of 4 torpedo tubes on each side for a broadside of 20 torpedoes!

A search on Scalemates brings up this

Now to find one.

Aoshima did Kitakami in 1:700 too, and that and the SkyWave were boxed as her sister “Oi”.

Thanks Tom, also found Fujimi did a fairly (last 10 years) recent new tooling but that is of her/him in 1945 fit with all but two sets of tubes removed, 100 x 25mm AA guns added and Kaiten carried. Although the Kaiten were human torpedos so I suppose that option still counts?

Sounds interesting, so I’m interested…

Well, TB…H I still haven’t decided yet, especially that I don’t have anything on my shelves that could fit into category… except FW190 TB version and Japanese cruisers

Necht? Really…? When do those manufacturers do their jobs right?
It should be Hecht, translating to Pike…

If the boss lady will allow me the purchase, I may just have to get this one:

“Allow” = I have more models than I’ll build in the remaining time left on this planet. So, I’ll ask nicely if I can get this for the campaign. Prior to moving into our current home I probably had around 500 +/- kits. It got to the point I was probably a “collector” and not a “builder.” LOL!!

There; fixed that for you.

Edge Case!

What if the vessel is the torpedo?

Works for me!

Although Wiki states “A modern torpedo is an underwater ranged weapon” the MT boat should be O.K., as I think we’ve already decided Kaiten count, as should Japanese Navy Shinyo suicide motor boats which were much more numerous and successful, as were the Japanese Army Maru-Ni motor boats (which theoretically weren’t suicide weapons although usually proved so in practice…).

@michaelsatin Excellent! Last night, I learned the same model would qualify for the IDF Campaign! I still plan on purchasing the Border Model Kate for Christmas so it will be the Barchino or Kate.

@MoramarthT Many years ago, I started down the road of collecting and building all those small submarines and suicide motor boats in 1/35 scale. When this campaign was announced, I went through my stockpile and pulled out a few. That is what led me to purchasing the MTM Barchino.

I will ask for forgiveness later.

Only if she notices it, right? Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

HH6 (my wife) was none too happy when my son sent this to me for my birthday.
I have some schemes for it, and may enter this campaign…

Why? A son can’t buy his dad a birthday present? If you have a daughter, perhaps you should have a conversation with her before the other foot tries on the shoe.
