Torpedo Away!

Group Build Title: Torpedo Away!

Group Build Leader(s): @michaelsatin

Group Build Description: Open to any aircraft or vessel that carried and used torpedoes as armament.

Event Details: Uh oh, I have a new campaign idea. Torpedo Away is about buiding any vessel or aircraft that carried and used a torpedo as armament. This could include torpedo bomber aircraft, torpedo boats, destroyers with torpedoes, submarines, etc. The one caveat is that the model needs to depict the subject with torpedo(es) aboard and ready to use.

(Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)

Completion Award: [add info about possible award badge here - see help threads for more info]

A Note about Awards: The following text is a reminder that in order for people participating and finishing their projects to receive a badge on their forum profile, they will need to provide their account username to the group build leader by the completion date of the build. The leader will then provide this list to the site admin who will bulk award the badges to those users who have finished the group build. If you don’t provide your username or finish the project on the timetable the leader has setup you will not be able to receive an award.

Seems like we could come up with an interesting variety of models to this theme. What does everyone think?

Sounds like fun.
I’ve got a lot stuff in the stash that would fit. Couple of helicopters, WW2 torpedo bombers. Few destroyers and subs lurking around.

So, mostly Whitehead Automobiles and all developments since, possibly Spar Torpedoes (deployed), but no shore batteries like a Brennan on it’s launch rail?

I am thinking a 1/72 scale S-boot in the North Sea.

I’m almost tempted to start my 1/35 Italeri S-boat. This gives me 6 months to find a spot for it.

1/72 Finemolds. Type A Ko-hyoteki midget sub (with Type97 torpedo). 46 tons. 78 feet long. Crew of 2. Armed with 2X 450mm torpedoes. 5 Type As were launched from their “mother ships” approximately 7 hours before the aircraft attack. They were tasked with penetrating Pearl Harbor and firing their torpedoes during the time between the first and second aircraft wave. It is believed I-22tou fired it’s torpedoes at USS Curtiss and USS Monaghan prior to being rammed and sunk by Monoghan. A second , unknown sub (I-16tou?) fired its torpedoes at USS West Virginia and USS Oklahoma. 1 (I-20tou?) was sunk outside the harbor by USS Ward. I-24tou started with a malfunctioning compass and after much drama ran aground at Waimanalo Beach. PO2C Kiyoshi Inagaki drown and ENS. Kazuo Sakamaki was captured, becoming the first Japanese POW. 1/350 Scale Guppy II Class Submarine. U.S.S. Cutlass (SS- 478). Circa 1957. Cutlass was commissioned in 1945 as a Tench Class and completed 1 war patrol. (She arrived off Northern Japan on V.J. Day) She was up graded to Guppy II standards in 1948 , with improved sonar/fire control systems, and numerous improvements inspired by late WW2 German research. The “Northern Sail” was added during her 1957 overhaul. She served in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean until retired in 1973. After being overhauled she was sold to the Republic of China (Taiwan) and recommissioned as R.O.C.s. Hai Shih… Sealion … (SS-791). 80 years later she is still on active duty.

Thinking I might do that Hobbyboss Lynx HMA.8 I got not too long ago.

Although they show it launching a Seaskua on the box, it’s got Mk.46 Stingrays inside.

Solid campaign idea. Lots of possibilities. Good excuse to build a sub.

A Devastator is a must here!

Woah. This would be an excuse to buy and built a 1/35 Border Model Kate. If only I had more skill…

Yep, a TBD is certainly indicated. Been itching to get this one going:

This should do it!

Y’know, I’d probably accept either of those. And they sure beat your suggestion in “Bugs”!

And like my suggestion in “Bugs”, the Brennan is a bit of a wind-up… And speaking of winding, I don’t think I’m up to modelling a Brennan installation:
