Torsten,
Now there’s one unusual Russian WWII subject for sure. As Usual, I’ll be following along in the shadows lurking as I have come to do on your builds.

Thanks for stepping in, Joel! It’s always great to know you at my side. We’re both watching over eachothers projects even if we don’t comment everything, don’t we?
So I better get this kit on the bench now …
Torsten,
Same here, but you knew that already. Now get back to the bench.
joel
Very interesting subject matter Torsten
I have to agree, not something you see guys build usually. I’ll be following along too.
Thanks for joining again, Russell and Peter!
Over here I have seen one or two finished Su-2 on expos in the last years. But you’re right, Zvezda is more known for their armor kits than for their flying stuff. So it is rare seen, yes. I know their La-5/La-5 FN and Bf 109 F and G, which should be nice kits also. Though I don’t have them.
I have just checked if I have all the needed paints (yes, I have) and started to glue the first parts together prior to painting. Funny, building this kit starts with the engine parts first. I hope to throw some paint on it in the next days and show some progress soon afterwards.
Not much to show yet, I have started to prepare all parts to paint with “Interior Grey”, for which I’ll use Revell Light Grey No. 76. Should be okay. First some parts on clamps …
Let’s see how it looks at the end of next week.
Torsten
Torsten,
Even your pre-painting is super organized down to part numbers. I just keep all parts to be painted each color in a separate mixing tin if they fit, if not, then I leave it to my aging memory, which basically means that I have a lot of redo’s to paint that I forgot about or just plain missed.
Good luck with Team Germany.
joel
Torsten, what are the blocks into which you’ve stuck the wire made from?
I’ve been using poly styrene personally, but it’s so light weight!!!
Thanks for looking, Joel! Usually I seperate all parts which need to be painted first and then glued to the kit. These clamps have proofed to be very helpfull. I always try to leave a bit of the sprue to the part for better holding it and write the part number on the block. So my procedure is about the same as yours.
Yesterday I have painted all needed parts in Light Grey, Dark Grey and Black. Today I’ll work at the bomb bay and engine. So I hope to show some progress soon.
Russell, I have bought these clamps at Amazon. The block is some kind of resin. I’m sure you’ll get them also in Down Under. Just search for Memo Clip Holders.

Thanks for the well wishes! I guess the guys must have read these lines. What a match, what a fight it was yesterday evening against Team Canada!
Our further opponents in the preliminary round are Kazachstan, Finland, USA and Latvia.
Torsten,
Believe me, you’re way more organized then I am.

Despite watching a lot of ice hockey this week I made some progress on the Su-2. The Shvetsov ASh 82 is done and consists of 20 parts. It’s nicely detailed, though not much of it will be seen later …

One, two, three, four …I’ve checked my references, the two rivets circled are too close together!

Nice work so far Torsten, I always enjoy watching your builds unfolding.
Cheers, D
Torsten,
Great start to a kit I’ve never seen before. Love the engine detail being a model and real life gearhead.
The fit looks darn good to me as there’s only two little fuselage points to be concerned with. and the rivet detail on the wings is amazing. Have no fear of me counting them, as it’s way to taxing for a super senior to contend with.
joel
Thanks for stopping by, guys!
D, what are your refences?
I have none, except the internet …
Okay, first things first. The ice hockey world championships with the great perfomance of Team Germany has kept me in front of the TV and away from the bench most of the time this week. Just have a look at this emotional interview of team captain Moritz Müller after that crazy quarter final match against Switzerland. Too bad Germany lost the semi final against Finland yesterday after a very close match. Germany was the better team (28:17 shots on goal), Finland the luckier. But it’s the best result of Team Germany since 2010. We’re so proud of you, guys!

Anyway, in between the matches I still found some time to work a bit on the Su-2. Most of the assembly is done by now. Meanwhile I found some fiiting flaws on the underside …
So next week I will cover and mask the landing gear, bomb bay, engine and cockpit. I think it’s better to paint the canopy and turret seperately. Still have to think about it.
Have a nice Sunday!

Nice work so far.
Torsten,
just super impressive work to date. the paint job is just simply perfect, as I always expect from you.
For attached glass especially the windscreen, I’d install then paint. Any sliding canopy units and the turret should be done separately IMHO being from the old school.
joel
Joel, that’s exactly what I did …
Just a bit progress on the Su-2, masking and filling. It doesn’t look much but it was time consumpting as usual …
Torsten
PS: Congratulations to
Canada
for winning the ice hockey world championships 2021!
Torsten,
Thought that you would go that way.
As usual, your masking is a thing of beauty. Perfectly done, and military neat to boot.
