To me it’s always the little details that make a model. I particularly like detail painting reflectors and lights, strange as that might sound.
Trying a little experiment… For the obvious brush ring that goes around under the turret, I am trying small cut sections from a paint brush and then glued…
It’s very time consuming and not really sure if it will work or even how it will look…
It will be trimmed back to the correct length and any gaps filled and painted black. Just going to do this one small area to test how it turns out…
Ouch! I hope that glue is water-soluble! Could you have experimented on something other than that lovely model? Or even made the brush (or portion thereof) as a separate assembly capable of being fitted after painting? Your skills outmatch mine by a great margin but I probably wouldn’t have tried experimenting like that on a near-complete model of that quality…

Start raiding your or your wives clothes.
I regularly remove the thick wads of thin synthetic woven labels sewn
into the inside seams of clothes. The ones with the laundry instructions
in umpteen different languages.
In some cases I have to remove the label strand by strand and the stump
left behind looks like a very fine brush. When I have removed all of the
horizontal strands so that only the vertical remains I can usually pull the
“stump” sideways out of the seam.
I wonder if that could result in something useable for that brush edge on
AS-90 turrets.
Cut small strips of those labels, cut off the thermo-welded edges (it is
those edges that can make those labels hard and scratching) glue one
edge to the turret and then carefully remove the horizontal strands from
the weave.
keep the warp, remove the weft, the ends of the weft on those labels is not turned back 180 degrees, they have woven wide swaths and then thermo-cut small strips welding the
ends of the weft to become a hard edge.
He already does but for different reasons. ![]()
Shussssssssss … thats meant to be a secret ![]()
Great looking model. As for the bristles - I tried various methods on HMMWV gun trucks and never could get it to work with real fibers. You may try a ring of styrene. (actually in this case not even a ring but just strips.) It can be a couple of mm in depth as you’ll only see the outer edge. Add small vertical lines with a heated X-Acto blade around the entire perimeter of the tirret. It’s time consuming but after dry brushing will look quite convincing.
I managed to get my hands on a 1/35th scale model of this Toyoda truck:
I will at least try to make those brushes for the wheels …
I know what you mean Tom @MoramarthT … It is something I should of tested earlier but it just got forgotten about to be honest … It is a lot of extra handling but the slow steady approach seems to be holding up.. and no water soluble for this call sign… Straight in with super glue ![]()
I know the type you are on about Robin @Uncle-Heavy but I couldn’t find any after a quick look round … That would have probably been a good solution…
That was something I had thought about Rob @18bravo but wasn’t sure how it would look,… Again, testing would of been a good idea
I have made a bit of progress with the chopped up bristles from my donor hairy stick …
It is time consuming… But at the moment, seems to be going ok … I am cutting and glueing about 4 to 6mm sections at a time which works well, then doing about a run of 10 to 15mm and letting it fully cuts and trimming back…
One small chunk fell out but it’s an easy fix, and looks ok to me… Will retouch the Green and then paint bristles black or very dark grey at the end … Will also do a very small section under the turret bustle at the edges but not all the way underneath…
Looks good.

I have to say it loksmuch better than the initial photo would have suggested.
The bristles were just oo short on the HMMWV turret to look good.
yeah, the first 2cm’s I was trying to find the best lengths of bristles to use for attaching so it didnt look pretty …
Nicely done ![]()
Many thanks & appreciated ![]()
That looks very convincing Olivier ![]()
Hell of a lot of stabbing on that little bit.
But convincing
Definitely yes. ![]()
Olivier
Impressive detailing.
Thank you Ralph … glad you like it ![]()
