Trumpeter LAV-25, (Supposed to be a Christmas project…)

Since I got some time off I decided to do a «quick» Christmas project. Going through my stash I found Trumpeters LAV-25 which I bought back when it was released 20 year ago(ish). It comes with four decent figurer (they need a little bit of Magic Sculpt). I found a Lion Roar PE kit for it, togheter with some resin wheels (which I might not use) and decals for a 3 LAR vehicle from Iraq 2003.

So far it has been a very nice build, the fit is very good and the kit it is not over-engineered. I have built most of the hull and figures, and the next thing to do is PE for the hull. There will be a short break now for Christmas celebration before I will crack on again on Boxing Day.

Here are some pictures and merry Christmas to you all.

Interesting project. With a bit forgotten kits.

I guess most of us have closets and shelves filled with «forgotten kits»…

C’mon, they have character!

They will be ok, just wait and see. The one who looks totally retarded is laying down so when mounted for painting he looks like he has some special needs….

He looks like he’d be a great Jackie Chan Drunken Master!

Even though I was not supposed to I managed to get a few hours at the bench. I glued together the turret halves after installing glass in the periscopes. Fit is still very good. Also made two crew figurs from spares.

One question I have is if the Blast Resin wheels can be used for a 2003 Vehicle? The rims are different, but the Blast wheels looks so much better than the originals. I have flipped throgh the New Vanguard LAV-25 book without finding an answer.

If the vehicle went through the SLEP. That would mean you need the fluted barrel on the 25mm, armored covers on the doghouses, but you can get away with the legacy muffler, the shrouded muffler that was part of the SLEP upgrades were ditched after a series of fires. For a -25 from the 2003 timeframe you might want to include a gypsy rack or two. I called one of these ‘home’ for 7 months during OIF 1, any questions about them ask away. And I have pics.

I guess I will end up with a May 2003 SLEP(ish) Vehicle. I have the barrel and I scratchbuilt a little for the Armoured doghouse. Pictures later. Thank you for the help Doc, as mentioned, this is my Christmas build so don´t excpect a masterpiece…

Enough for today. My scratchbuilt sight cover is so so, but I guess it will do… i also modified a spare M240 for the coax mg since it is not in the kit. The bustle rack is on and the major part of the turret build is done. More to follow.

Todays effort. I have been mostly working on the hull, PE has been good to me and I made some progress.

No pictures today. I have cleaned up resin stowage and made PE can holders.

Been a bit slow due to «mandatory Christmas fun»… However, I managed to build a gypsie rack and do some PE. The rack is far from perfect, but will do with some stowage as «camoflage».

Getting closer to paint.

The build is finished and I have primed the model. The gray primer blenda plastic and resin nicely together and I am pretty happy with the result so far. i realise it will not be finished before I have to go back to work, but that really does not matter much. Painting starts tomorrow.

Do old fuel cans with recessed crosses still used in 2003 ? I was thinking they were replaced by the new ones with a recessed oblong shape.
