Twin-engine fighters

Still a bit early for painting, don’t want to wake up the wife with the compressor, no need to die today. So I am going to start on my build for this campaign

As usual, going to start on the cockpit!

Working on my Tamiya P-38! Sorry I haven’t added anything here yet I’m not familiar with the campaign process. Will post pics on here soon but my individual build thread is up. Thanks!

I don’t know whether it is possible to move your build thread under this campaign heading, but just posting a link here will be fine if that doesn’t work…

Here’s the link! Thank you!

If you can figure out the other thing that’s fine, if not, that’s fine also! Please when you finish though, post your finish pic in this thread just so I will note it. I’m following the other thread so it shouldn’t be a problem, but you know, sometimes life just gets in the way…

Got the cockpit of the Me-262 mostly done, just need to do a wash and dry brushing. The base kit cockpit is actually quite nice! Still trying to figure out what to do with the dials. It’s my first time using a instrument panel decal. It went on really nice, but for some reason hobby boss has the dial outlines in white. I think this makes the dials pop nicely but I haven’t been able to find a picture where this is the case. Everything I have seen they are black. I might dry brush them with flat black then silver to make them pop but more subtlety

Looking really nice, Mead! Nice details in the cockpit.

Chugging away on the Me-262. This kit is really nice with a good fit, the only places that’ll require cleanup are the Jumo engine Center line seams and the rear seam, the wing root, and the fueslage half seams but all should be easy to deal with, almost done the construction. Thinking of adding wiring to the cannon bay, since I intend to leave it open

Thanks! This might be the first aircraft I actually get across the finish line!

I have actually been working a little on my Typhoon.
The seat in the kit was not too bad but I got the PE interior set and now it looks much better.
Since I will have the cockpit and Airbrake open I needed to add a little detail and make them a bit nicer also.

Yeah, I know the Black is hard to see in images. :disappointed:

That cockpit is gorgeous. Did you paint that or are they decals?

For the typhoon they are pre-print PE by Eduard
I se ESD bag pieces for the turned off displays though

I really like the interior sections.
What colors are the side walls and stuff? If that is Flat black how are you taking pics that look that clear?
Phone, Camera, what settings?

Thanks

Thanks for the compliment! I am quite pleased with how the Cannon bay and cockpit look. The side walls of the cockpit are RLM 66 made by mixing Real colors schwarzgrau with a little home brew elfenbein ivory to warm it up. In person it’s a very dark grey.

I am not photography expert so perhaps dumb luck. But I find to get the best photos on my iPhone I shine a really bright light from above, and then take the photo at a high angle. If you tap the phone screen you can select where you want the camera to focus. I usually tap on a medium sized detail in the area I want. If you tap a small detail it will blur everything else, if you tap a large detail it will blur the smaller ones

The cannons are Mr surfacer 1500 which is a bit satin, rubbed with graphite shaved off a pencil. I think this helps the detail pop. The remaining parts are various mixes of Alclad Duraluminum and Alclad Magneisum

Jeff, great work on the cockpit. Looks beautiful. What did you use for the screens? I am not sure I understand.

I used ESD (Electrostatic discharge bag) or anti-static bags.
They are the bags that you get memory, PC boards, or other electrical items in.
I like them because they give a nicer look then black covered with clear film.
They have a bit of a shine and are a bit translucent.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes good sense. I will scavenge one of those bags next time I get one. First time I hear of this and adds nice realism.

Thanks for the tip :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:
