Great start! The phantom is jsut such a good looking aircraft
Definitely one of my favourites.
Just such an impressive aircraft for its time.
Whelp ādisasterā struck, I was super happy with the camo on the top side but when doing the white I oversprayed a bit. When I went to touch up the camo I couldnāt quite get it to match the previous stuff, came out Dark and glossy for some reason. Then I got a couple random splatters From random paint drops probably from mixing paint⦠then to top it off I grabbed the kit with a glove that had a bit of primer on it
Think Iām going to prime again and start over. Iām spending more time trying to fix issues than itāll take to repaint.
Is it better to start on the lower surfaces and then do camo? I imagine this would be easier for masking.
OH no!
That is too bad.
I hate when that happens, but been there and done thatā¦
An unfortunate turn of events to be sure. Sorry to hear about your mishap, but than the hobby is a very harsh mistress (our respective stash is evident to thatš¶)
Yeah not great, but I think Iāll be able to fix it up. Already got it back to all black primer. Have a better plan this time, going to start on the lower surfaces, then Upper
I was at the point where I was patching holes and everytime I tried to fix one mess another popped up
Never give up, keep going, in the end you will surely be very content with your finished model. Happens to me, too, now and thenā¦
Merry Christmas to you and all modellers here!
Cheers
Peter
That sucks, Mead. We have all been there. Hope it Will work out great!
This one just doesnāt want to get built lol. Primed it, went to mask the engine openings and one of the engines fell into the nacelle. Had to cut off the front to get it glued back together. Cut it along a panel line and it went okay but now the panel line is a bit wider than I like.
Any way got it back to the point where the nose and undersides are painted. Hoping to get camo paint done today. This is the first aircraft I think Iāll get off the ground since returning to aircraft seriously, so at this point Iām trying to get it across the finish line with no further hiccups. One thing I defintley need to learn is panel line scribing
tested, looks like not a tail sitter but Iām still going to put some plasticine to nose cone, just in case
Alright, got back to this build finally. Repainted the bottom surfaces and top surfaces, and then tried my hand at mottling. Itās my first attempt at it. I think it went okay, only thing Iām not happy with is a bit of overspray, but I donāt think I have the equipment to do better. My Paasche VLS has a 0.55 mm nozzle for the smallest size. Open to comments and suggestions for future builds. This is my first aircraft!
Looks great Mead.
Thatās a skill I need to practice. I suspect itās a bit easier on something bigger like your Me262. At 1/72 itās very tricky.
I imagine. I found it pretty hard at 1/48, getting the blobs down was easy but avoiding overspray was tough. I think my next mottle job will require a finer airbrush. Iām fairly happy though. My main goal in this build was to get it build avoiding any major gaps or reappearing seam lines
You did a great job with it.
Last one I attempted was a 1/72 Macchi 200 for the Malta campaign. Just didnāt work out so I went old school with a stippled brush mottle. Turned out ok from an armās distance!
Thank you! I imagine that would be tough in 1/72, one thing making me hesitate to pick up a maachi is the paint scheme
Looks good, certainly doesnāt seem like your first aircraft, and the paint scheme, well, itās looking quite professionally done
Thanks! Iām really happy with this build outside of a couples poorly resribed panel lines and the mottling is a little off in some spots
The Italians had some really funky schemes!
Mine needed the poached egg scheme over olive green. Probably the most colourful on the shelf at the moment and really happy with how it turned out.
Iāve got a couple of MC202ās to build in the smoke ring scheme which will be fun.
The Navy Phantom Iām building here is going to be a lot simpler to paint.
Wow that is stunning! The Italian planes sure are colorful!
Any imperfections just add to the overall effect. These things were sprayed freehand in real Iife.
