Twin-engine fighters

Thanks John, a couple of ideas I hadn’t considered. Somewhere I’ve got the Malaysian decals for an F/A 18 that could qualify. And I’ve got a 1/72 F7F on my to do list, but I want to do an F7F-3N, Need to find a conversion set for the nose and aft cockpit. But the flat black finish will be too dull for you.

My grandfather flew a Tigercat after WWII. He was a USMC night recon pilot during WWII and Korea. VMFA-531.

I’m ready to get started, Heller’s (Airfix’s) 1/72 P-38 Lightning.

It’s a starter kit, the paint brushes had long since departed, at least one of the paint pots had solidified and I don’t use tube glue any more.

Looks like a nice kit. I don’t think there is a much difference between the regular kit and staryer kit, at least in the parts. Starter kits usually are normal kits with a brush, some paint and glue.

Some progress on the Gekko, looking airplaney now.

Looking good! Is this the Tamiya kit?

Yep, it is the Tamiya kit.

How is it (assuming great being tamiya). I’ve thought about it picking it up a couple times

Pretty good for the most part although the cockpit dial and seatbelt decals are crap. Using masks for the rest of the markings. Som fit issues with the cockpit into the fuselage but that is most likely my own ham fistedness, the rest has fit together great.

Nothing like taking a 2 month hiatus after starting a build…
Well I now have my 3 1/2 year old Grandson living with us and those stupid door knob covers that are hard for us to open aren’t hard for little kids.
He got in to my office and damaged all 3 landing gear and lost parts. I would assume somewhere in the house but who knows where.
I have been deciding on what to do. Go with closed gear in Flight or try to go to parts box and rebuild.
I chose the latter, rebuild it is.
Here is where I am at.

Reshaped the canopy nose are which was too rounded to my eye and added some detail.

I opened the vents and fixed the APU opening (it was only a small dent kind of)

Finally a few fit issues.

I am gonna try to get back to this maybe 1 or 2 nights a week, if possible.

Great work on those vents Jeff.
The rebuilt landing gear looks like it turned out well.

I know from working 10 years in schools that there’s no such as childproof. They can get through anything!

No Kidding.
If you told me I would be in my 60’s and raising kids again I would have said you were nuts!

But I will say, you tend to appreciate them more and are kind of enthralled in what they can do so young.
