While I wasn’t planning on doing any crew members for this build, I was thinking, anyone have any good guides for painting Japanese soldiers/crewmen? So far the videos I’ve found are mostly 28mm for bolt action etc
Well ladies and gentlemen and everything inbetween, I am finally calling this build down. It fell victim to the classic “I’m gonna set you aside and come back to you later” only to be collecting dust for a few months. Now I have buckled down and finished it
The things that were left was the tarp, cable, helmet and bag, and the tracks. I went with the vinyl tracks for this because while they don’t look that good imo, I’m saving the nicer metal ones.
The tarp was originally green but it blended too much with the tank, so I did brown for contrast. The cable was a bit finicky but I got it set.
All in all, this kit was my “learn mistakes and write them down”. We learned some stuff and tried new techniques (successfully and unsuccessfully) that I’ll apply to the future. I have a big backlog of unfinished projects for my skirmish games, so going to focus on those before I choose what to do next. Maybe I’ll have y’all vote!
Bonding with the Ho-Ni
What flavor green did you use?
That’s AK IJA Green (ak11902). I got AKs Japanese armor afv pack, and it was in there. I had previously used the Hataka paint set for the Ho ni, which I also liked, but my local hobby shop got this in and I wanted to give it a shot
You did a really nice job on the Type 97, and I’d say you learned a lot along the way. That’s the way to really become an experienced modeler - build models! Now you have all those techniques under your belt, and your next model will be even better.
Thanks! And thank you for the tips along the way
